the Committee during a Public Comment period.
Tony Horton, 252 Rio Vista McCall, Idaho, commented on the agreement made in a June 2013 discussion,
that pickleball would be allowed on the tennis courts for the summer of 2013. Mr. Horton would like to know
if the pickleball association is following up on their commitments made in June of 2013 to raise money to
build their own courts.
Phylis Bolgen, Donnelly, Idaho, had to go through the Donnelly City Council to resolve the issues regarding
pickleball on the tennis courts in Donnelly.
Jack Bonawitz, 262 Morgan Drive, McCall and Meridian, President of the Boise Area Pickleball Association
read a prepared statement in favor of pickleball. Statement is on file.
Peggy Bryan, McCall, Idaho, delivered letters in support of pickleball. Letters on file.
Mr. Horton read from a prepared statement. Statement is on file. Mr. Horton made the assumption that
pickleball would like to acquire courts for themselves. Mr. Horton read and commented on a letter which was
mailed from John Sweeting. Email on file. Mr. Horton stated that he believes not everyone in Donnelly is
satisfied with the tennis vs. pickleball resolution. He would like to see rancor between the groups go away.
Mr, Horton would like to find a place for pickleball where access to tennis won't be affected. Creating a dual
use courts, creates useless courts. Mr, Horton stated that the two sports are not compatible. McCall courts
are not under-utilized and cannot find room on the courts all through the year. Mr. Horton stated that tennis
players and pickleball players need their own courts. Mr. Horton used the analogy that if a croquet group
wanted to play on the golf course, it would not be permitted. The courts were not designed for pickleball. Mr.
Horton urged the Committee to please have pickleball enthusiasts follow their commitment to raise money
and build their own courts.
