Parks and Recreation Department Conference Room
Members present: Bill McDonald, Corey Nelson, Ed Roper, Matt Linde, Irwin Mulnick
Staff present: Dennis Coyle, Erin Roper
Ed Roper made a motion to approve minutes from the November 28, 2012 meeting. The motion was
seconded by Corey Nelson, motion passes unanimously.
The Committee voted to amend the agenda to include discussion for the Waterways Improvement Fund
Grant
The Committee discussed the process regarding Park(s) reservations and the fees associated with paying
online with a credit card.
Scholarships for children of city employees was discussed. Ed Roper recommended wait listing for
e mployees' kids if a program is full. Dennis Coyle emphasized that city employees as participants in our
programs help to promote Parks and Rec programs.
Irwin Mulnick made a motion that city employees' children go to classes/programs for free. Adults (city
e mployees) received 50% off of the registration cost. Both instances would be based on space available.
If a program is full, city employees and/or children of city employees must pay the full -rate to attend a
program, seconded by Bill McDonald. Motion passes unanimously.
Waterways Improvement Fund Grant Application
The City's Boat ramp is unusable in the spring and fall when the lake is low. Parks and Rec would like to
e xtend the boat ramp 10 yards. Urban renewal will let the Department use the grant funding as a match.
The goal is to make ramp deeper so boats could come out later in the season. Sidewalks would be added
to west side. Eventually the sidewalk would connect to Brown Park. Bill McDonald made a motion to
approve Waterways Grant application to extend the boat ramp. Matt Linde seconded. Motion passed
u nanimously.
Winter Carnival Float
Dennis Coyle makes a pitch for an Advisory Committee Winter Carnival Float involving Irwin in lycra
which falls like a lead balloon.
Old Business
The Committee is still in need of replacing Brigid as a member. Erin Roper to make a recommendation at
the next meeting for a High School student to join the Committee.
