HomeMy Public PortalAbout90-013 (01-29-90)RESOLUTION NO. 90 -13 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD OPPOSING THE PACIFIC BELL AND GENERAL TELEPHONE PLAN TO DIVIDE THE CITY OF LYNWOOD INTO TWO AREA CODES WHEREAS, Pacific Bell and General Telephone has announced that on February 1, 1992 it will introduce a new 31ff area code in Los Angeles, and WHEREAS, Pacific Bell and General Telephone states that this additional area code is necessary in order to accommodate the new telephone number subscribers and to keep from running out of available numbers, and WHEREAS, the ten cities affected by this proposal are Bell, Bell Gardens, Beverly Hills, Commerce, Culver City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lynwood, South Gate, and West Hollywood, and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood has reviewed correspondence from the City of South Gate, the City of Bell Gardens and a G.T.E. and Pacific Bell 213/310 Fact Sheet regarding the planned splitting of ten cities into two area codes, and WHEREAS, the City of Bell Gardens and the City of South Gate are opposing the planned division of cities into 2 different area codes, and !: WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood opposes Pacific Bell and ' General Telephone's failure to provide public participation by affected cities in their decision making, and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood supports the idea of using City boundaries as the determining factor in area code designations, and WHEREAS, while the City of Lynwood recognizes the need for an additional area code, the City is opposing any plan that would cause a City to have two separate area codes within its jurisdiction. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby resolve as follows: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Lynwood formally go on record opposing any plan that would cause a City to have two separate area codes within its jurisdiction. Section 2. That this Resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption. APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 29th DAY OF January , 1990.
