FEBRUARY 14 MEETING MINUTES
Neca made a motion to approve the Historic Preservation Commission February 14, 2014
meeting minutes. Bill K. seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT(CLG) STATUS UPDATE
Sarah and Chantel reported that the Leigh Burns, our CLG Coordinator with the HP Division at
DNR, has confirmed that she is submitting the City's application to become a Certified Local
Government to the National Parks Service this week. We should have an update within thirty
days.
PERMIT REVIEW UPDATE
Sue reported that Jerris in the City's Planning and Zoning Department inquired about the need
for the HPC to review re-roofing permits. Sarah confirmed with Sue that these permits should
continue to be reviewed. Neca requested that Sue email the permit review requests she is
receiving to Commissioners so that they can be involved and gain more knowledge.
NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH
Chantel has incorporated the suggested edits received from Commissioners and Main Street
Directors for the Preservation direct mail piece. She will send Sarah the document in word
format so that the Historical Society can mail to PO Boxes. Sarah confirmed additional copies
will be made so individuals can pick them up at various locations on the island for educational
purposes.
Sarah confirmed that she is working on the Historic Preservation 101 presentation.
Commissioners agreed to have the presentation on Tuesday, May 27 beginning at 7pm.
Chantel will check the availability of the Guard House as the location. She will email
confirmation to Commissioners.

DESIGN GUIDELINES
Chantel provided handouts of the revised design guidelines to Commissioners. She noted that
the Architectural Guidelines were deleted as requested, but she did incorporate a brief
description about styles for each district based on information she has from Cullen. These
descriptions were added to the Appendix. Commissioners discussed the process for City
Council to adopt the design guidelines once they are complete.
Sarah stated that Bob Ciucevich is planning to work on a multiple property listing for the
island as a whole once interns are confirmed. This will make the process of pursuing tax
credits easier and faster. Districts will still be pursued. She will discuss the style guidelines
with him. Commissioners will meet for final review of the design guidelines again in June.
Jane confirmed the guidelines will be an excellent tool for real estate professionals.
DRY FLOOD PROOFING—RESIDENTIAL
Sue reported that she communicated with Mark Boswell about options for residential dry
flood proofing to help with the flood insurance rate concerns. Sarah will look into
incorporating information into the design guidelines.
OTHER BUSINESS
Neca requested that the HPC resume meeting at the established meeting day and time of the
third Mondays per month at 6pm. Commissioners concurred.
Chantel reminded Commissioners about the Savannah Preservation Festival and the Section
106 training on June 5 in Valdosta. Sue asked Chantel to resend the information.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 12:00pm.
