HomeMy Public PortalAbout91-142 (09-03-91)Resolution No. 91 -142 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DECLARING SEPTEMBER 23 -27 AS RIDESHARE WEEK FOR 1991 WHEREAS, there is an urgent need to increase the awareness and understanding of individual commuters regarding transportation alternatives and to challenge commuters to take personal responsibility for reducing air pollution, fuel consumption, traffic congestion, transportation costs and parking needs by ridesharing rather than alone to and from work, and WHEREAS, to help traffic flow in the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange Ventura and San Bernandino transportation alternatives must include carpooling, vanpooling, taking the bus, biking and walking, and WHEREAS, the need to help public and private business communities throughout California with 100 or more employees to educate and build public awareness on the value of ridesharing and increasing the number of employers involved in developing rideshare programs, to recognize the importance of ridesharing as an effective, low cost solution to many other transportation and environmental issues, and an effective component in a comprehensive transportation system that meets the needs of all citizens, and WHEREAS, the need to encourage 100,000 Southern California commuters to complete, return, California Rideshare week cards, pledging not to drive alone, on Tuesday, September 24, (1991) "Keep California Moving Day" during the week of September 23 - 27. The California Department of Transportation and other organizations related groups throughout the state will be observing California Rideshare Week. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby find, determine, order and resolve as follows: Section 1 . That September 23 -27 be proclaimed as Rideshare Week in California and urge all citizens in the counties and cities to recognize the important role which ridesharing plays in ensuring the continued economic and environmental health of our State. Section 2 . This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day ofS 1991.
