HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD CLOSED SESSION SEPTEMBER 22, 1997 9:00 AM, Police Training Room The Hillsborough Town Board met in closed session on September 22, 1997 at 9:00 AM in the Police Training Room. Present for the Board Meeting were Mayor Horace Johnson, Commissioners Kenneth Chavious, Evelyn Lloyd, Catherine Martin, Richard Simpson, and Remus Smith. Staff present was Interim Town Manager Sherry Carter. Upon a motion by Commissioner Chavious, seconded by Commissioner Simpson, the Board moved to reconvene by a vote of 5-0. The motion was declared passed. Upon a motion by Commissioner Martin, seconded by Commissioner Lloyd, the Board moved into closed session for the purpose of discussing a personnel issue by a vote of 5-0. The motion was declared passed. The Board discussed the following changes to the contract with former Manager Eric Swanson as a basis of what to offer the new manager: 1. On page 3 , Termination section, change the period of time to 3 months in two places. 2. "Military Leave", delete if not applicable 3. "Vehicle", limit to official town business only 4. On page 4, Performance Evaluation, change date to coincide with hiring anniversary 5. Section 12, delete . The Board also agreed to the following terms: 6. Cost of living increase would be given at the time of evaluation, not same as general employees 7. The Town will pay moving expenses, based on the lowest bid provided by applicant 8. The Town will pay for membership in one civic club 9. Starting salary will be $64,000 Upon a motion by Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Chavious, the Board moved out of closed session by a vote of 5-0. The motion was declared passed. Upon a motion by Commissioner Martin, seconded by Commissioner Chavious, the Board moved to hire Eric J. Peterson at $64,000 annually, with the discussed contract changes by a 5-0 vote.
