REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 14, 1990
A regular meeting of the Lynwood Womens Commission was held
in the VIP Room of Bateman Hall on the above date at 5:30 p.m.
Chairman Culp in the chair.
Commissioners Dr. Betty Jackson, Della Mazziotti, Everlena McCown,
Ethel Pacheco, and Verna Culp answered the roll call.
Also in attendance were City Clerk Hooper, Minutes Clerk Warren,
Commission Advisors Ann Fields, Janice Smith, and Lorna Hawkins.
Chairman Culp announced Commission Advisor Dixon would not
be in attendance.
It was announced the agenda had been duly posted in accordance
with The Brown Act.
UNFINISHED BUSIN.
Commissioner Mazziotti discussed letters being sent to various
Congressmen and Senators in opposition to the cutbacks affecting
senior citizens. Read letter she had sent to Senator Benson,
Alan Cranston, Congressman Thomas Foley, and Mervyn Dymally.
Chairman Culp discussed letter she also sent.
Discussion was held on the selection of the outstanding woman
in the community.
Chairman Culp spoke on the requirements for eligibility and read
the criteria for selection.
Commission Advisor Smith announced names she had received:
Andrea Hooper, Mary Harris, and Ann Fields.
Chairman Culp gave presentation on the State Conference and
activities to be held in Sacramento in March.
Chairman Culp questioned Ways and Means Committee if there were
any plans currently to raise funds for the commission. Stated
the Corresponding Secretary would send out letters to those who
had expressed a desire to become involved with the Womens
Commission.
Commissioner Dr. Jackson discussed issues that were relative to
women and the development of a Policy Statement relative to goals
and objectives specifically directed to the omen of Lynwood.
Chairman Culp requested City Clerk notify City Council of Women
Commissions desire to attend Conference in Sacramento so they
would be aware of Commissions proposed activities.
After discussion,
It was moved by Commissioner Dr. Betty Jackson, seconded by
Commissioner Mazziotti and accepted, that the Policy Statement
for the Lynwood Womens Commission be as follows:
The Commission works for the betterment of all women in
the City of Lynwood in the area of intervention, health,
and education.

Commissioner Advisor Smith questioned nominations for outstanding
woman in the community. After discussion,
The following were nominated: Andrea Hooper
Ann Fields
Evelyn Wells
Mary Harris
Marcine Shaw
Lorna Hawkins
It was announced each nominee was to submit a biographical
statement to Commission Advisor Smith.
City Clerk Hooper suggested the Womens Commission help the
Sheriffs Department Athletic League put together Thanksgiving
and Christmas baskets for those less fortunate.
Commissioner Dr. Jackson spoke of Commission looking into the
area of grants to aid the homeless women and children.
Chairman Culp spoke of home in Compton that was being opened
to assist the homeless women and children.
There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned at
6:40 p.m.
