ADJOURNMENT * Next Meeting - April 28, 1993 • 0 MINUTES LAW ENFORCEMENT REVIEW BOARD Meeting of February 24, 1993 The regular meeting of the Law Enforcement Review Board was held on February 24, 1993, in the City Hall Council Chambers. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairperson Robert Downs. The pledge of allegiance was conducted by Robert Downs. Members in attendance were: Elizabeth Dixon, Robert Downs, Hilario Esparza, and David Willis. Don Brantley was absent. Staff members in attendance were: Deborah Jackson and Pat Alvarez. The minutes of the January 27, 1993 regular meeting were approved as distributed. • Follow -Up Response Letter A draft follow -up response letter was distributed to board members for their review and approval. The purpose of this letter is to find out if complaints /commendations reported to the Law Enforcement Review Board have been addressed and /or resolved. It was moved to accept the follow -up response letter. It also suggested to make complaint /commendation forms available to the Block Watch Captains throughout the city. Information on city of Long Beach Citizen Police Complaint Commission and West Hollywood Public Safety Commission was also distributed for board members information and review. Public Orals - Councilman Heine announced the Unity Dinner, to be held on February 26, 1993 at 6:00 p.m., at Bateman Hall. He reminded members to call the Chamber of Commerce with their reservations and menu choices. 40 • Law Enforcement Review Board February 24, 1993 Minutes Board Members' Orals David Willis thanked Deborah Jackson for the very informative materials on similar commissions received from other cities. Hilario Esparza thanked Captain Freeman for allowing him to participate in a ride -along during checkpoint monitoring, said the deputies were very professional. - Robert Downs expressed his displeasure at the newspaper article published in the Journal Newspaper relative to the Law Enforcement Review Board. Mr. Downs suggested that in the future, the commission get together as a whole before answering any questions from the media. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. to the March 14, 1993 regular meeting. 0 •
