A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA,
CONFIRMING THE VILLAGE'S ABILITY TO FUND
AND SUPPORT THE PERMITTING, DESIGN,
CONSTRUCTION' AND MONITORTNG OF THE
VILLAGE'S BEACH RENOURISHMENT PROJECT;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
\ilHEREASo the Village is the entity responsible for the maintenance and
preservation of the beach adjacent to the Village that is the subject of Village's Beach
Renourishment Project (the Project); and
\ilHEREAS, the Village supported through adoption of Resolution 2016-20 and
funded in its 2016-2017 Village Budget the permitting, design, construction, and monitoring
of the Project, which is located approximately between Florida Department of Environmental
Protection's Monuments R-102 and R-108 in Miami-Dade County, Florida; and
WHEREAS the Village recognizes the significant economic, recreational,
environmental and shore protection value that the beach renourishment has provided since
1987 and continues to provide today; and
WHEREAS, the beaches of Key Biscayne suffered substantial erosion of the due to
the effects of Hurricane Matthew; and
\ryHEREAS, the Village is willing to serve as the local sponsor for the Project and has
expended full funding from its capital improvement budget for the permitting, design,
construction, and monitoring of the Project which began and was completed in Fiscal Year
2017-2018 with performance monitoring through Fiscal Year 2019-2020; and
\ilHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne Village Council has determined that the
Project and the adoption of this Resolution are in the best interest of the Village and its
residents.
NO\il, THEREF'ORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE
COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNEO FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals Adopted. The recitals stated above are hereby confirmed and
adopted
Section 2. Fundine of Proiect. The Village has funded the full cost of the Project and
is seeking a Fifty (50) percent reimbursement for the total cost of the 2017 Project.
Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon
adoption hereof.
