Play round Update: Chair Lyttle read aloud a letter from the Board of Selectmen requesting that the Committee take immediate action to close the existing playground structure to the public. A motion was made by Josh Stewart,seconded by Gwynne Guzzeau and voted unanimously(3-0)to close the playground to the public and research removal of the structure prior to the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. Discussion was held on the various ways to inform the public of this decision. The Committee expressed the opinion that time is of the essence,and getting the word out viamedia-,-signage-and perhaps fencing.viould be-the next:step -Remoyal.ofthe structure will require research as to the cost. Should the cost of removal be$10,000 or more an RFP would have to be developed and bids accepted for the removal project.After discussion,it was determined that Principal Carreiro would formulate a press release for publishing in the local papers, have signs made stating the structure is closed, speak with the Barnstable County Sheriffs Department regarding their possible assistance with removal, and with BFI as well Josh Stewart will speak with various community business people regarding their possible help with removal. Dr.Hoffmann will speak with the Department of Public Works regarding available fencing and help with/estimates on demolition. Chair Lyttle asked if the students would need some temporary equipment outside for the upcoming school year. Principal Carreiro stated thatthey had enough outdoor equipment to get through the school year. Wendy Farrell informed the Committee that the Playground Committee would be operating as a 501(c)3 organization(non-profit). j Ms.Farrell is the President of that Organization. A checking account has been opened and all corresponding paperworkhas been filed;she is in the process of securing insurance for the upcoming Nauset Marine Event. Gwen Holden-Kelly,Orleans FinCom,suggested that the Playground Committee make a strong effort to reach out to Orleans taxpayers,keeping them informed of how the funds allocated on the new playground will be spent. Principal Carreiro agreed,and stated that it was imperative that the playground be viewed as an important part of the school day for students;as well as a community resource that is enjoyed by visitors and residents all year long. Principal Carreiro requested that the School Committee give their approval to the Playground Committee go ahead with their planning,advertising and fundraising efforts for the new playground structure. The planning process will include a Design Day L ,. a t ateoneyeaerSansesigntViHhv"rvv ase ti rcate specifications and an RFP to be put out to bid. Advertising efforts will include press releases, a.website,social media and a fundraising thermometer. The official name will be the Orleans Community Playground. Fundraising efforts are varied and will evolve over time. Planned right now are an OES Fall Gala,a brick campaign,the Nauset Marine 50a'Anniversary Party,a car wash,direct mailings,a craft fair and raffles. A motion was made by Gwynne Guzzeau,seconded by Mary Lyttle and voted unanimously(3-0)to approve all planning, advertising and fundraising efforts as submitted. IV. Approval of Minutes: j A motion was made by Gwynne Guzzeau,seconded by Josh Stewart and voted unanimously(3-0)to approve the minutes of June 8 and June 20,2011. i V.
