ADJOURNMENT * Next Meeting - January 25, 1995 Law Enforcement Review Board December 28, 1994 Page 3 Mr. Haley responded to Mr. Willis about the request that it is possible that they can get a monthly report on complaints made to City Hall but needs to contact the Sheriffs department per this request. Sgt. Watkins concluded that all complaint give to the sheriffs department are serialized.and all must be accounted for and they all must show the dispossition. Mrs. Dixon pointed out that on the day of Mrs. Willis' funeral service that her car was stolen from where she had parked the car. Mrs. Dixon contacted the sheriffs department and they went and recorded the then. Before dark that evening the Mrs. Dixon recovered the car from the kids that took the car in which she had called the sheriffs to report the kids that stole it but never came out to the scene until the next morning in which she contacted the Sheriffs department again for her car to be taken out the "Hot Sheet" and about two hours later the sheriffs came out About thirty minutes later, another patrol car came out and added that the Sheriffs made a joke of it. Mr. Willis asked if Sgt. Wadkins could investigate the case and get back to the Board regarding this. Mr. Willis asked Mr. Haley if it is possible that the Board could get get together with the representative of the Sheriffs department, Community Relations Section without having the meeting here. Mr. Willis added that we need to touch bases with each other and understand how they fimction and how we function. Mr. Willis concluded that the Board be issued a copy of the bi -laws. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m. to the January 25, 1994 regular meeting. kJ , MINUTES LAW ENFORCEMENT REVIEW BOARD Meeting of December 28, 1994 The regular meeting of the Law Enforcement Review Board was held on November 9, 1994, in theCity Hall Council Chambers. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chairperson David Willis. The Pledge of Allegiance was conducted by Staff liason Roger Haley ATTENDANCE Board Members in attendance were: Elizabeth Dixon, Henry Guidry, Hilario Espana, David Willis. Councilmembers present: Councilman Louis Heine. Staff members in attendance: Roger Haley and Tony Romero. Sheriff's Dept Representative: Sgt, Warren Wadkins MINUTES The Minutes of the November 9, 1994 regular meeting were read and approved as distributed. PUBLIC ORALS None. BOARD MEMBERS ORALS Mr. Guidry spoke in referrence to the Scared Straight Program he spoke of in the last meeting. Mr. Guidry wanted to find out if there is a scared straight program for young peopleand that Jr. High Schools, Elementary schools and High Schools if the Board could coordinate it with the Board of Education to get students together and take them to the emergency room show them some videos n some negative aspects on gangs. Mr. Willis described in brief that Mr. Guidry wants some information about the scared straight program in which he understand that that the Board needs to review the bi laws before the Board could get into this program and request that each member recieves the bi -laws to understand what the Board can do. It is also to Mr. Willis' understanding that the Sheriffs department is involved with the Scared straight program and asked Sgt Wadkins to respond to Mr. Guidry's suggestion. Sgt Wadkins described that the Sheriff s department does work with people that are involved with gangs but will try to get more information on the Scared Straight Program and will forward it to Mr. Guidry as soon as he gets it Mr. Willis began to describe the duties of the Board and that is to listen to complaints from residents against the Sheriffs department and again request that each member receive a copy of the bi -laws from Roger Haley Also, Mr. Willis wants W. guidry to receive his business cards next meeting. Mr. Willis suggested that Mr. Haley, along with the Sheriffs department get a listing on the number of complaints received against the sheriffs department every month.
