Meeting Minutes
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Hutcherson called the meeting to order
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Hutcherson, Cornelius, Hawkins and Calderon answered roll call.
INVOCATION

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Cornelius led the commission in the pledge of allegiance.
APPROV OF MINUTES FOR AUGUST 13, 2007 MEETING
Chairperson Hutcherson made a motion to approve the minutes and Vice - chairperson
Cornelius seconded.
PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Andre Hooper, the City Clerk, explained to the commission the formal process of
delivering the agenda and minutes to the mayor /council.
SCHEDULED MATTERS
SENIOR CENTER
Commissioner Cornelius noted that the doors at the Senior Center were still a little too
heavy to open. He also asked if there were an adequate number of handicapped parking
spaces at City Hall and the Annex.
MONTHLY REPORT LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT
The commission was presented the June /July 2007 statistics for review Commissioner
Hutcherson noted that there appeared to be increased police patrols within the city Lt.
Rivas noted that more units will be patrolling once school begins.

CERT TRAINING

Staff liaison noted that the response to CERT Training has been minimal and will seek
ways to further publicize the training.
The Commission as a whole suggested that there must be a better way to get valuable
information to the public.
Commissioner Cornelius suggested putting announcements in the monthly water bill
statements.
QUARTERLY REPORT: LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT
Rosemary presented a PowerPoint presentation, and flyers about the Explorer Program,
Junior Lifeguard Program.
Ms. Rivero noted that the Commissioners can be added to an e -mail list to receive the
monthly statistics instead of waiting for each meeting. In their packet included fire
reports at residential properties, fire station inspections, etc.
QUARTELY REPORT: LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL
The commission was presented a formal report to review The information in the report
consisted of activities and services that provided during the time period of July 2006 -
June 2007
The commission was also informed on the specific discounts that seniors are eligible to
receive such as the spray /neutering program, the 60+ golden state advantage, free
microchips and available vaccinations.
COMMISSIONER ORALS
Commissioner Cornelius brought up a current parking situation around the city buildings.
He stated that city vehicles are constantly parked in the red. He wants to know where city
vehicles should park.
He also noted that the minutes were not thorough, timely or coordinated with the agenda.
Commissioner Calderon inquired if the canopy at the Senior Center was adequately
anchored.
ADJOURNEMENT
It was moved by Vice - chairperson Cornelius and seconded by commissioner Calderon to
adjourn to the next meeting scheduled for September 10, 2007 at 6 15 p.m. All in favor;
Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 8:OOp.m.
