SPECIAL MEETING—REGULAR SESSION
I. ROLL CALL
President Riffle called the Special Meeting of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space
District Board of Directors to order at 7:30 p.m.
Members Present: Jed Cyr, Yoriko Kishimoto, Pete Siemens, Cecily Harris, Larry
Hassett and Curt Riffle
Members Absent: Nonette Hanko
Staff Present: Acting General Manager Ana Ruiz, General Counsel Sheryl
Schaffner, Senior Planner Meredith Manning, Project Manager

The following people shared their thoughts regarding the Lehigh Quarry Reclamation
Plan Amendment: Barry Chang of Cupertino; Ken Smyth of Cupertino; Cathy
Helgersson of Cupertino; and Tim Brand of Cupertino.

11. 'BOARD BUSINESS
1. Agenda Item #1 — Board Workshop for Mount Umunhum Radar Tower Options (R-
12-75)
Acting General Manager Ana Ruiz welcomed the Board and public to the meeting
and introduced Cathy Hyde, Constituent Services Director from Congressman Mike
Honda's office. Ms. Hyde read a statement from Congressman Honda into the
record.
Senior Planner Meredith Manning explained that the purpose of the meeting is to
provide an opportunity to review, ask questions, and comment on the three radar
tower options under consideration as well as the project costs and funding. She also
provided an overview of the preliminary list of factors to be considered in making
decisions regarding structures on District property and stated that the purpose of the
list of factors is to help guide the Board in the radar tower decision-making process.
Ms. Manning explained that the Board will be considering the list of factors at this
meeting.
Next, Ms. Manning provided a brief overview of the radar tower options as well as
costs of the options and the associated maintenance. Rich Walkling and Bob
Birkeland of Restoration Design Group presented the three options for the radar tower
to the Board and answered questions they had.

Due to time constraints,the meeting was continued to September 19, 2012. The
Board agreed to consider the list of factors at the next Special Meeting for the Mount
Umunhum project.
Ill. ADJOURNMENT
President Riffle adjourned the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the
Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District at 10:29 p.m.
