A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, URGING THE
MIAMI.DADE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS TO TAKE ACTION TO PRESERVE
THE EXISTING PLAYING FIELDS AND LIGHTS INCRANDON PARJÍ PROVIDING FOR
IMPLEMENTATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFF'ECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne, Florida (the "Village") is a growing
community with residents in need of active recreational fields, including baseball and other
multi-purpose playing fields; and
WHEREAS, for several years, the Village has explored all opportunities and taken steps
in an effort to provide for additional playing fields; and.
WHEREAS, more than ever there exists an additional need for playing fields because of
the youth population explosion taking place in our community; and
\ryHEREAS, on November 13, 2001, the Village Council adopted Resolution No. 2001-
74 urging the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners to preserve the existing
playing fields in Crandon Park, including the approval of a resolution seeking an amendment to the
Crandon Park Master Plan which would allow the existing ballfields and lights to remain; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council wishes to renew the request made in Resolution No.
2001-74 and authorize the Village Manager to take any and all actions necessary to allow the
existing ballfields and lights to remain and be repaired due to damages caused by recent natural
disasters, such as Hurricane Irma; and
\ryHEREAS, the Village Council finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and
welfare of the citizens of the Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals. Each of the above-stated recitals are hereby adopted, confirmed,
and incorporated herein
Section 2. Request. The Village Council hereby renews its request that the Miami-
Dade County Board of County Commissioners take all necessary action to preserve and enhance the
existing playing fields in Crandon Park, including the approval of a resolution seeking an
amendment to the Crandon Park Master Plan which would allow the existing ballfields and lights to
remain and be repaired due to damages caused by recent natural disasters, such as Hurricane lrma.
Section 3. Implementation. The Village Council hereby authorizes the Village
Manager to take any action which is reasonably necessary to implement the purpose of this
Resolution, including the provision to the County of the specific text of the requested amendment to
the Crandon Park Master Plan. The Village Manager is also authorized to continue utilizing the
services of the Village Attorney and any other professionals who may be able to assist in
accomplishing the pu{poses of this Resolution.
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon
adoption.
