HONORING AND CommENDING KAREN Foss
WHEREAS, the Alidpeninsula Regional Open Space District has enjoyed a cooperative,productive,
and mutually supportive relationship with the.Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation
Departinenl; and
WHEREAS, since 1993, Karen Foss, as Director 01'Couniy Parks, has worked diligently to
enhance and maintain that relationvIiij), and has been instrumental in ensuring that
communication, cooperation, and tealnivork between the District and County Parks is a top
priority; and
WHEREAS, Karen implentenled the first joint management retreats, to bring together the
management staffs of County Parks and the Open Space District to discuss mutual issues, share
experiences and.ideas, and enhance relations between the two agencies; and
WHEREAS, Karen's work will? County Parks has resulted in a number qfsuccessful collaborations
with the District, including the joint purchase q1Jacques Ridge enabling an important extension of
the Bay Area Ridge Trail; the Counf.v's participation in funding for Deer Hollow Farm, which was
instrumental in keeping this communii.),treasure open and operating; and the joint purchase of the
Bartkowski property, which was crucial to providing a connection between Sanborn Skyline County
Park, El Sereno Open Space Preserve, and 11711a Montalvo.

Open Space District honors, cojr III,c,j(jv, (I,,(/acclaims Karen Foss for her accomplishments during
more than 25years cif public service, or her progressive management of the Santa Clara County
Parks Department, and j n-her leadership in local and regional parks issues. The Board further
wishes Karen the best in herfiaure endeavors, on this occasion of her retirement from public
set-vice.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula Regional Open
Space District on June 28 , 19 95 at a regular meeting thereof, by
the following vote:
AYES: Peter Siemens , Mary Davey, David Smernoff, Nonette Hanko, Betsy
Crowder, and Wim de Wit
