' 3 LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMM SSION MINUTES OF THE MEETI:J OF JULY 14, 1993 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood was held July 14, 1993 at the Conference Room at City Hall. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Commissioner Betty Jackson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members in attendance were: Verna Culp, Mary Sue Lewis and Dr. Betty Jackson. Commissioner Della Mazziotti and Ethel Pacheco were excused from the meeting. Staff members present were Silvia Lara and Deborah L. Jackson. Commissioner Lewis made a motion that the minutes of June 9, 1993 be approved as presented. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Culp. I. OLD BUSINESS A. ELECTION OF NEW CHAIRPERSON Ms. Culp mentioned that due to the lack of quorum the election ceremonies should be postponed to the August 11, 1993 meeting. B. NATIONAL CONFERENCE Ms. Culp made a motion that Dr. Jackson should attend the National Women's Conference on July 21, 1993. Ms. Lewis seconded the motion. Dr. Jackson will attend conference and will be reimbursed after Council's approval. Dr. Jackson mentioned that this year she will be appointed to run for the National Board of the Status of Women. C. COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN Dr. Jackson mentioned that she attended the commission on Status of Women conference of June 25 and June 26, 1993. Cities in attendance were Lynwood, Riverside, Los Angeles and Compton. Dr. Jackson also mentioned that there were more speakers than participants in attendance. 1 J LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 14, 1993 II. PUBLIC ORALS - Dr. Jackson asked if the dues for National Women's Conference were paid. Ms. Jackson will find out. Dr. Jackson mentioned that a sympathy card should be mailed to Mayor Richards and that Get Well cards should be sent to commissioners Pacheco and Mazziotti. - Dr. Jackson asked if the resolution requested by commissioner Mazziotti was prepared and mailed out. Ms. Lara responded yes it was processed. - Ms. Lewis mentioned that Ms. Culp is very inspirational to the "Foster Children Program ". Ms. Lewis also mentioned that a State Conference on Foster Children will be held at the Red Lion Inn, July 23, 24, and 25 in the city of Ontario California. - Dr. Jackson mentioned that Dr. Liddell should be on one of the speakers for the Childcare Workshop. - Dr. Jackson suggested that the commission obtain a supply of all occasion cards. This matter will be discussed at the next meeting. 1 t 1 There being no further business, Commissioner Lewis made a motion that the meeting of the Lynwood Women's Commission be adjourned at 6:10 p.m. Motion was second by commissioner Culp
