Administrative Secretary V ADJOURNMENT 0 0 REGULAR MEETING OF THE PERSONNEL BOARD CITY OF LYNWOOD July 16, 1987 The regular meeting of the Personnel Board of the City of Lynwood, California was held on Thursday, July 16, 1987 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Lynwood City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood, California. The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Litke. Roll call was taken by Douglas Robinson, Personnel Officer. Commissioner Gilpen and Johnson were absent. Commis- sioner Johnson's absence was excused. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Felker. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Litke requested a correction be made in the minutes of the June 18, 1987 meeting on line three of the second paragraph to read: Chairman Litke felt the.... Correction so noted. The motion was made by Commissioner Gilpen and seconded by Commissioner Felker to approve the minutes of June 18, 1987 with the noted cor- rection. All in favor. Motion passed Mr. Robinson informed Board members that the tape from the May 21, 1987 meeting was not available as it was taped over at their last meeting Mr. Robinson noted that future tapes will be maintained for a reasonable period. The motion was.made by Commissioner Esparta and seconded by Commissioner Felker to approve the minutes of the May 21, 1987 meeting. All in favor. Motion carried (Note: The Board had requested the tape from the May 21, 1987 meeting be played for their listening for clarification of certain statements recorded in the minutes which were made by Mr. Gomez, City Manager) STUDIES & REPORTS The first item on the agenda was the request from the Personnel Department for the certification of eligibility lists. Commissioner Felker made the motion with Com- missioner Esparza seconding to approve the eligibility list for Building Inspector. All in favor. Motion carried. The next eligibility list for certification was the Rehabilitation Specialist. Commissioner Esparza made the motion with Commissioner Felker seconding to approve the certification of the eligibility list for Rehabi- litation Specialist. All in favor. Motion carried Personnel Board • • July 16, 1987 -2- Chairman Litke asked if anyone had been hired in the position of Firefighter Trainee. Chairman Litke inquired as to the procedure being conducted to hire five (5) trainees. Don Fraser, Assistant City Manager, detailed the process to the Board. It was noted that the applications had been carefully screened to obtain the most qualified candidates The next step of the examination process is the physical agility examination. Mr. Fraser stated this was the same agility test given Firefighters. After the physical exam there would be an oral interview process. The top five (5) ranking candidates would be scheduled for a physical (medical) examination. Upon successful completion of all phases the top candidates (5) would be scheduled to attend Rio Hondo College Fire Academy Chairman Litke questioned if the candidates would be eligible for employment after successful completion of the Academy. Mr. Fraser stated the City was considering having three eligibility lists: lateral transfer, entry level, and Firefighter trainee. In the event of an opening the department would have access to these lists. Mr. Fraser stated some of the guidelines were still being worked on Mr Fraser felt the eligibility list would be valid for one year to be in line with all other eligibility lists Chairman Litke ques- tioned the age requirement, noting that he thought Firefighters had to be of the age of 21 years before hired. Mr. Robinson and Mr Fraser said they would check the age requirements but didn't feel this was the case. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to conduct the motion was made by Commissioner Felker and seconded by Commissioner Esparza to adjourn. All in favor Motion carried. Robinson, Personnel Officer SUBJECT: CERTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY LISTS The Personnel Department respectively requests the Board's certification of the eligibility list for Firefighter Trainee, Economic Development Specialist, Equipment Repair Supervisor and Secretary. The breakdown of scores and candidate names are attached for your review The Department Head responsible for making the final selection to fill their department's vacancy has been given the names of the top three ranking candidates for interviewing.
