Staff will report on attendance and money collected. b. INVITATION TO THE BLOCK WATCH CAPTAINS DINNER Comments: The Sheriff's Department is organizing a Block Watch Captains Dinner on October 29 and has invited each of the Commission members to attend. Invitations were mailed 10- 16 -87. c. DISCUSSION OF NEW PROJECTS Comments: Commission members will discuss ideas for new projects. III. PUBLIC ORALS IV. ADJOURNMENT REGULAR MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION AUGUST 19, 1987 The Community Affairs Commission met in a regular session on August 19, 1987 at the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood California. Commissioner Litsinger called the meeting to order at 5:00 P.M. It was moved, seconded and carried to approve the minutes of July 15, 1987. Present David Litsinger Barbara Newton Lucille Walker Marion Madden BUSINESS ITEMS Absent Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Bette Espeseth A. Discussion of the Community Affairs Forum Commissioner Litsinger reported that Tim Boyle from the Scottish Rites had visited Bateman Hall along with City Staff and will be calling again to make final arrangements. Comm. Litsinger stated that he will keep in touch with Tim. Commissioner Newton reported costs for decorations which include: Tableclothes at 1.95 /ea and Napkins at 2.25/15. There will also be balloons and centerpieces. Comm. Litsinger volunteered to check other locations for napkin costs. Comm. Newton will call City Hall with further information. Rosemary Valdovinos discussed the Bargain Buffet option for dinner from Bisquit Catering. Menus were given to the Commissioners with choices listed for the hot entry. Commissioners voted to have Roast Beef. Rosemary also handed out 20 tickets to each Commissioner. Due to a printing error the Commissioners returned the tickets to staff for correction. Rosemary suggested that she mail the corrected tickets to each Commissioner. It was decided that there would be no head table. Fliers on the event were passed out to each Commissioner. The next meeting of the Community Affairs Commission will be held September 16, 1987. The meeting adjourned at 5:30pm 0 0 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION September 8, 1987 The Community Affairs Commission met in a special session on Sept. 8, 1987 at the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood California. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act) Commissioner Litsinger called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present Yolanda Bays Ann Fields David Litsinger Barbar Newton Lucille Walker Marion Madden Absent Bette Espeseth Also present were Don Fraser & Carol de Jesus. BUSINESS ITEMS A. Discussion of Community Affairs Forum Mr. Don Fraser expressed concern regarding the upcoming dinner/ play event slated for September 24. He feared it would be very embarrassing if nobody attended that night. The commissioners reported the number of tickets sold and below is a breakdown as ff: Ann Fields - sold 10 Barbara Newton - 5 adults, 5 children David Litsinger - 7 sold, expects to sell 6 more Marion Madden - sold 7 Lucille Walker - sold 9 Mr. Fraser reported that with the encouragement of Andrea Hooper, City Clerk, the Chamber of Commerce as an organization donated 10 children & 5 adult tickets; individual Chamber of Commerce members bought 3 children and 4 adult tickets. The commissioners decided that the tickets be given to the elementary schools. Commissioners Bays and Newton took charge of handing them to the schools. The last day for turning monies is set for Monday, September 21. PREPARATION & SET UP: Commissioner Newton needed a deposit of $80 for helium tank. She will go with Ms. Rosemary Valdovinos to buy the napkins and other accessories the day before the forum. The commissioners planned to come in at 12:30 p.m. on September 24 for set up at Bateman Hall. Commissioner Litsinger reviewed the program. The doors will open at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.; the explorer group will do a flag presentation during the pledge of allegiance; the play will start at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for the 16th of September, 1987. As everything seems to be in place,the meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
