MOTION TO ADJOURN TO A REGULAR MEETING FOR JUNE 16, 1993 AT 5:00
P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF THE CITY HALL, 11330 BULLIS ROAD,
CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA.
COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF
APRIL 21, 1993
The Community Affairs Commission met in a regular session on
April 21, 1993 at the City of Lynwood City Council Chambers.
(Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.)
Commissioner Lorna Hawkins called the meeting to order at 5:00
p.m. Members in attendance were: Bette Espeseth, Ann Fields,
David Litsinger, Barbara Newton, Lucille Walker, Yolanda Bays,
and Lorna Hawkins.
Staff present were Ralph Davis, Silvia Lara, Diana Escalante.
The minutes of February 17, 1993 were accepted as presented and
the minutes of March 17, 1993 were approved with the following
corrections: Commissioner Ann Fields called the meeting to order
and Yolanda Bays was excused from the meeting.
I. SCHEDULED MATTERS
A. SHERIFF'S AGENDA
Sgt. Slawson announced that they have a new Community
Relations Commander and his name is Lt. William Graves.
Sgt. Slawson mentioned that 36 thousand red, white,
and blue "Peace In The City" ribbons were distributed
during the verdicts. Sgt. Slawson also mentioned that
due to the verdicts the Sheriff's Athletic League
facility was closed and everyone was out on patrol.
B. CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Davis stated that at this time there was no
correspondence.
C. SISTER CITY
Mr. Davis mentioned that he will prepare a packet
regarding the Sister City's program for commissioners
review during the May meeting.

Mr. Davis mentioned the following events:
1. May 1, 1993, All City Track and Field
Meet, at Lynwood High, and
Excursion to Olvera Street,
$1.00 per person.
2. May 5, 1993, Wall of Fame Meeting,
Transit Center.
3. May 7, 1993, Cinco De Mayo
Picnic, Dymally Park
4. May 6, 1993, Cinco De Mayo Celebration
5. May 11, 1993, Lynwood Sports Association
Mtg., "Drive By Shootings"
6. May 15, 1993, Community Awareness for
Youth, Teen Center.
E. EYES ON LYNWOOD
Mr. Davis mentioned that the Law Enforcement
Commission had a Complaint form similar to the
"Eyes on Lynwood" complaint form. Ms. Bays
mentioned that the "Eyes on Lynwood" complaint
program should be open to the community and with
the option of identity. Ms. Hawkins suggested that
once the "Eyes On Lynwood" complaint forms are
completed they should be mailed out along with the
water bills. Mr. Davis will prepare a report for
the commissioners review during the May meeting.

F. SERVICE SIGNS REPORT
Mr. Davis provided commissioners with photographs
of other city service signs. Ms. Walker suggested
that the organization should pay for having their
information on the service signs. Commissioners
will give recommendations on the selection of the
service signs during the May meeting.
II. PUBLIC ORALS
* Ms. Fields mentioned that Compton College has had
Laker player James Worthy help with the athletic
clinic. Ms. Fields also mentioned that the Book Loan
helped 107 students with their books and that 89
students repaid already.
* Ms. Newton reported that property on 3937 Walnut
Avenue was not being maintained, grass is too high.
Ms. Lara will send complaint to Code Enforcement
Department for follow up.
* Mr. Litsinger mentioned that it was time for the
commissioners to report to City Council.
Mr. Litsinger also mentioned that it is taking too long
to place the Red Car Station and that they should
speed up process because it looks unattractive.
* Ms. Espeseth mentioned that the Girls Basketball State
Winners are going to Greece. Mr. Davis suggested to
congratulate the state winners. Mr. Davis also
mention that on May 14, 1993 there will be a Parade
for the Girls Basketball Team. Ms. Espeseth also
mentioned that the Easter Egg hunt was nice but that
there were too many adults participating.
* Ms. Hawkins mentioned the Drive By Agony variety show
on April 29, 1993 which was very successful. The
show was aired on channel 28.
There being no further business, the Community Affairs Commission
Board Meeting was adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
