Chairperson Cornecia Banks presided. Roll Call AM pry► 718A10010211121314i$i8 regular Yegsion on the Lynwood Teen Chairperson Cornecia Banks, Vice Chairperson Jesus Trigo, Commissioners Andre Agaalii, Siatua Agaalii, Sulu Ah- Ching, Daniel Haley, Maylene Hardin, and Michelle Zavala answered roll call. Commissioners Joe Araujo, Cameron Green and Jaime Perez did not answer roll call. Approval of Past Minutes It was moved by Vice Chairperson Jesus Trigo and seconded by Commissioner Zavala to approve the minutes of January 6, 1993. Motion carried. Certification of the Posting of the Agenda by the City Clerk Diana Escalante, Recreation Staff, certified the posting of the agenda by the City Clerk. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS Recreation and Park/ Teen Center Reports Diana Escalante reported the Natatorium began its 39th season of operation on February 1, 1993; The Recreation and Parks Department will host its annual Black History program on Friday, February 19. The event will take place at Bateman Hall and will begin at 7:00 p.m. She also distributed the Lynwood Teen Resource Center's January Financial Statement, Monthly Report, and Youth CouncilMinutes to the Commission. Ms. Escalante discussed the upcoming Valentine's Day Dance to be held on February 12 and the next Community Awareness Meeting (Gang Diversion) on February 11, 1993. Interim Director of Recreation and Parks, Ralph Davis III arrived. Educational Forum ZCOmmunity Awareness Meeting Ms Escalante reminded the Commission they host an annual Educational Forum and Anti - Graffiti Program. Last year, the Youth Council began a monthly implementation of both these projects. She asked the commission to consider sponsoring one of the monthly Youth Council Community Awareness Meetings, rather than sponsor one of their own. This item will be tabled at the next meeting. Ralph Davis III, asked the Commission to consider hosting a large scale Anti - Graffiti program during the spring or, summer of this year. This item will be tabled at the next meeting. Youth Summit Interim Director Ralph Davis informed the Commission on the status of the Youth Forum scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 1993. Chairperson Cornecia Banks inquired if the Commission can be more involved in the Youth Summit. Mr Davis replied he will check into the possibility. Goals and Objectives for 1993 Ms. Escalante asked the Commission to review their original goals and objective from 1989 and bring back to the next meeting any suggestion and recommendation for revision, Chairperson Cornecia Banks suggested the Commissioner be mailed the original Goals and Objectives for review. Ms. Escalante replied that they will be mailed with the minutes. Commissioner Joe Araujo arrived at 6:20 p.m. ORAL COMMUNICATION Public Orals Denise Haley, 2360 Killen Court, inquired whether the new Youth Commissioners could receive an orientation as to their duties. Ralph Davis replied the Recreation and Parks Department will be issuing information packets to the new commissioners. She also inquired as to the new hours of operation at the Natatorium. Staff Orals Ralph Davis welcomed the new Youth Commissioners Commission Orals Commissioner Michelle Zavala volunteered to assist staff for the upcoming Valentines Day Dance Vice Chairperson Jesus Trigo welcomed the two new Youth Commissioners 0 0 Chairperson Cornecia Banks welcomed the two new Youth Commissioners and recommended the commissioner review the previous goals and objective before the next meeting. Adjournment It was moved by Commissioner Andre Agaalii and seconded by Commissioner Zavala to adjourn to the next regularly scheduled meeting on March 3, 1993. Motion carried.
