MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MAY 25, 1993
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson George Martini at
6:00 P.M. The invocation and Pledge of Allegiance was presented by
Commissioner Eloise Evans.

OPENING CEREMONIES
Ralph Davis certified posting of the Agenda by the City Clerk.
Chairperson Martini asked for a motion to approve the minutes of
the meeting of April 27, 1993. A motion was made by Commissioner
Markovic with a second by Commissioner Evans.

CURRENT PROGRAM REPORT
Community /Transit Center
Mr. Davis stated that May was a very busy month. The All -City
Track & Field Meet was held on May 1, 1993, and was well attended.
Boys Baseball began on the same date with over 300 participants
enrolled. Opening Baseball Ceremonies were held with teams playing
exhibition games. Picture day was also held. Girls Softball is
also underway with games being held every Tuesday and Saturday.
Cinco de Mayo was celebrated on, May 8th and 9th. Activities
included soccer games and a four -day carnival with vendors booths,
mariachis, dancers and singers. It was an excellent program.
On May 14, 1993, the City and School District held a parade and
reception for the Lynwood High School Girls Basketball Team
champions. Mr. Davis stated that these girls deserve this great
honor for winning the High School State Championship.

The City hosted the 1993 SEMAA Track Meet on May 22, 1993. Over 20
cities participated, with attendance well into the thousands.
Efforts made by staff were excellent.
Mr. Davis took pleasure in announcing that the City employees won
the California City Employees Basketball Tournament. This coed
tournament is held every year. The team proudly dedicated it's
trophy to former employee, Victor Woods.
Plans of renaming a street in honor of Caesar Chavez are upcoming
for next year. Commissioner Mendoza suggested Fernwood Street.
Mr. Davis stated that the suggestion would be taken to Council.
Summer Day Camp registration begins June 1, 1993. There will be
three (3) four -week sessions with the first session beginning on
June 14th at Ham Park. Day Camp hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00
p.m., with extended hours from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- 6:00 pm. provided at no additional cost. The ages for campers
are 4 - 13 years. The fee is $75.00 per session. The fee includes
breakfast and lunch provided by USDA Food Program. Mr. Davis
reports this to be an excellent program.
Juneteenth Day will be celebrated June 19, 1993. There will be
pony rides, petting zoo, a soap -box derby, etc., The celebration
will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Mervyn Dymally Park with a "school
ending" picnic for the children, and will end with dinner and an
entertainment show that evening.
The July 4th Fireworks Display is on the agenda for Council's
approval. Mr. Davis stated that this is a most enjoyable event.
Commissioner Evans inquired whether the Recreation Commission could
sponsor a booth. Mr. Davis informed her that the request must be
approved by Council.

Mr. Davis' pictures of businesses did not turn out well, but
he suggested as the top three (3): McDonald's on Atlantic

The Commission agreed.
Mr. Davis reported that the FY 93 -94 Budget Request is underway in
preparations. There has been a change in administration in the
area of City Manager. The Interim City Manager is now Faustin
Gonzales. Budget concerns will remain the same as last year.
Intentions are to implement grant funds in the refurbishment of
Dymally Park. The City will also utilize the Maintenance
Assessment Funds to a greater extent for projects in the City.
