ADMINISTRATION
1. Attended presentation for Pepsi Play Park.
2. Met with Adolph's Catering.
3. Attended follow up Management Action Program Meeting.
4. Met with Public Works on Lighting and Cogeneration Projects.
5. Met with track club coaches.
6. Arranged and conducted Los Amigos Park Dedication.

RECREATION
1. Women's Slow Pitch Softball began.
2. Flyers sent to school regarding Drill Team registration.
3. Drill Team parents meeting held.
4. Drill Team fundraiser,began.
5. Staff attended sports seminar.
6. Began recruiting of sports officials.
7. Conducted Unity Festival.
8. Attend'SCMAF Cross Country meeting.
9. Took two excursions to L.A. County Fair, one for adults, one
for youth, a pproximately two h undred (200) attended.
10. Began enrollment for fall classes.
BATEMAN HALL
1. Repaired and tuned all pianos.
2. Painted patio trash containers.
3. Serviced and repaired Air Conditioning Units.
4. Made preparations for Mayor Henning Enshrinement.
5. Representative of Adolph's Catering began regular Wednesdays at
Bateman Hall.

NATATORIUM
L. Completed session five (5) of summer swim sessions.
2. Conducted staff safety meetings.
3. Completed boiler maintenance.
4. Repaired broken line leading to filter room.
5. Implemented session one (1) of winter schedule.
6. Repaired broken windows in locker rooms.
7. Repaired heat motor west end exhaust.
8. Repaired broken switches men's locker room.
9. Cleared out exhaust rooms.
10. Contacted Swimming Hall of Fame regarding historical status.
11. Cleaned rubber mats in lobby area.
12. Removed graffiti in front of pool areas.
PARK DIVISION
1. Trimmed thirty (30) trees along Hosler parking area.
2. Trimmed hedges at Natatorium.
3. Cleared sink at picnic shelters #1.
4. Reset basketball goals on reservoir.
5. Repaired twelve (12) quick copular valves.
6. Planted Bouganville at sheriff's trailer.
7. Planted pansies in Bateman. Hall planters.
8. Roses trimmed and sprayed for control of mildew.
9. Completed Imperial Wall.
BUILDING MAINTENANCE
1. Removed broken stucco 36 x 96 and rewired and stuccoed in Men's
Locker Room - Natatorium.
2. Installed Partition in Men's Restroom - Ham Park
3. Installed three (3) ceiling security lights Ham Park patio.
4. Picked metal door for Ham Park - modified existing door jam
and installed new metal jam and door, added dead bolts and
hardware.
5. Repaired two (2) door jams and rest doors - Ham Park.
6. Had all dead bolts repaired at Ham Park.
7. Removed and replaced broken glass window recreation gym area.
8. Installed shower head men's room - Natatorium.
9. Replaced two (2) flood lights Bateman Hall Patio.
10. Replaced four (4) push shower valves - Men's Natatorium.
11. Welded flame supports for roll windows - Natatorium for security
four (4) windows.

13. Replaced 30 H.P. pump - Natatorium emergency call out.

MINUTES OF RECREATION S PARKS COMMISSION MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 25, 1990
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Robert Markovic at 6:00 p.m.
The Invocation was given by Chairperson Robert Markovic and he led the Pledge of
Allegiance.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
Harold Mattoon certified posting of the Agenda by the City Clerk.
Commissioner Bette Espeseth made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular
meeting of August 28, 1990 as mailed, with a second by Commissioner George Martini
and all in agreement.

CORRESPONDENCE None
MONTHLY STAFF REPORTS:
A. Facility Usage for Bateman Hall, Ham Park and Community Center were attached
to agenda.
B. News Releases... mailed on a current basis.
C. Personnel ...Harold advised the department will be advertising for Building
Maintenance positions, an Office Assistant II position, Office Assistant III
position and Facility 6 Program Supervisor position for the Teen Center.
CURRENT PROGRAM REPORT by Ralph Davis
We are in the conclusion of summer programs and in the middle of - fall programs.
The department is registering Flag Football with tryouts scheduled for October 6.
There will be four divisions covering ages 6 -14 years. Registra for All Cit y_
Drill Team is being taken with 30 sign ups so far covering girls and boys from
5 -15 years. The program begins October 1st.
The fall programs underway are Karate, Piano, Ballet and Charm. Enrollment for
the Lynwood Lightning Track Club is underway for youngsters 7 -17 years. Last year
the youngsters went to the finals in Spokane, Washington. The Womens Softball League
has games being played on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. There was
a Shopping Spree to Tijuana on September 8th. On Saturday, September 15th the
Los Amigos Park Dedication was held.
An Educational Forum will be hosted on Thursday, October 11 at Bateman Hall at
6 p.m. This event was initiated by the Youth Commission to obtain the status

of education in Lynwood. A panel was selected from the community to discuss
objectives and goals of education in Lynwood.
The Youth Commission is sponsoring an Antigraffiti Day Program on October 13 at
9 a.m. at Dymally Congressional Park. The program will offer a welcome rally and
an essay contest to youngsters in the community and also community involvement in
eradicating graffiti, with a lunch to follow. All of this is sponsored by many
of the businesses in the Lynwood area.
TRANSIT /COMMUNIT CENTER REPORT by Harold Mattoon
Harold displayed the floor plans for the Transit /Community Center with recommended
changes and explained the different areas. The main lobby will be on Bullis Road.
The building will have 3000 more feet than the existing building.
ACTIVITY REPORT by Harold Mattoon
Harold distributed the written Activity Report for August 1990 for the perusal of
the commission and their comments.
UNITY FESTIVAL REPORT by Ralph Davis
The Unity Festival was held Labor Day weekend which started August 31 through
September 3rd with a carnival. On September 1st and 2nd there was community
involvement with various food, merchandise and information booths. Entertainment
was provided both days.
COMMISSION ORAL 5 WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner George Martini ..glad to see the City taking the initiative to
involve the community in a graffiti clean up day. Commissioner Martini advised
he is very interested in the Block Watch program. He commented on various
community problems concerning vehicles. He suggested the citizens be made aware
of the City ordinances so they can contact Code Enforcement when they are being
violated.
Commissioner Bette Espeseth ... asked how many passengers were on the bus for the
Pomona Fair. The response was 29. She expressed concern regarding an incident
on T.V. involving Lynwood Sheriff's Department and its effect on the image of
Lynwood.
Commissioner Julio Mendoza had a concern regarding the sprinkler system flooding
an area and asked if he should in the future, call Adolfo. Response was either
call Adolfo or contact the Sheriff's Department as they have the name and phone
number of the person- on- -rad
Commissioner Robert Markovic ... noticed the park area by St. Francis has been
cleaner than normal.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made to adjourn to the regular meeting scheduled for
Tuesday, October 23, 1990 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road,
Lynwood at 6:00 p.m.
