As you may know, since 1992 broadcast television stations have been allowed by Congress to grant or deny permission, as well as charge retransmission consent fees, to cable television systems to carry their channels. Our current agreement with the local broadcast ownership groups listed above expires at midnight on December 31, 2020. At Sparklight, we are committed to providing our customers with the best TV programming at a reasonable price. Programming is our most expensive cost, which is why we vigorously negotiate with broadcasters for retransmission consent. Unfortunately, many broadcasters are demanding triple digit rate increases for programming that is available for free over-the-air with an antenna and on the Internet. We do not feel that this is fair to our cable customers, and we believe it's our responsibility to take.a stand and protect our customers from these excessive price increases. 41 J ! Sparklight will continue to negotiate in hopes of reaching an agreement that is fair for everyone. However, we wanted to make you aware that Sinclair Broadcast Group, Scripps Media Inc., Gray Television, Tegna Inc., and Cocola Broadcasting could force Sparklight to remove their station(s) from our line-up if we cannot reach a fair agreement by December 31, 2020. Our efforts to resolve this issue will continue and I will keep you informed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
