HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080227 - Resolution - Board of Directors (BOD) (5) Cover Sheet for Scanning by ECS, Originating Department General Manager Laserfiche Template Board of Directors Template Fields Document Date: 2/27/2008 Document Type: Resolution Preserve Name: Keywords(no more than 4): David Hansen Retirement Project Name: Project Number: Vendor or Other Party: Name (First): Name (Last): Address: APN Number: Document No. 08-08 Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: RESOLUTION NO. 08-08 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MIDPENINSULA REGIONAL OPEN SPACE DISTRICT HONORING DAVID HANSEN ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIRMENT WHEREAS, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District was created for the purpose of purchasing and protecting in perpetuity a regional open space greenbelt on the San Francisco Peninsula, thereby preserving pristine wilderness, wildlife habitat, and fragile ecosystems, and providing opportunities for ecologically sensitive public enjoyment and education in the counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz; and WHEREAS, David Hansen as the District's Land Manager from 1982 to 1991 was in charge of the group responsible for acquisition planning, maintenance, and operations of the District's open space preserves, thereby ensuring the challenge of maintaining the delicate balance between keeping the lands unspoiled while providing public access; and WHEREAS, when David Hansen came to the District from Marin County Open Space District, he truthfully recalled it was "essentially the same job as he did in Marin, but with the increased opportunity, responsibility, and challenge he needed;" and WHEREAS, dedicated to the District's goals, David Hansen was instrumental in establishing public amenities at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve, solely undertaking the construction of a whole access trail built by volunteers at a Skyline area preserve canopied by redwoods, and in kicking off the long-standing project for the cleanup of the former Almaden Air Force Base atop Mt. Umunhum in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, a project which has still not been completed as of this day; and WHEREAS, the cleanup of David Hansen's office at the District could be compared to the Mt. Umunhum cleanup effort as "anything that went in to David's office never came out;" and WHEREAS, in addition to managing the District preserves for the public's enjoyment, David Hansen had his own fond appreciation for Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve and Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, celebrating many birthdays in this rustic backdrop and enjoying many a trail run at these respective locations; and WHEREAS, originally from New Zealand, David Hansen inherently gained early exposure to the natural world and it has made a lasting impression as he has continued to be a wonderful supporter of open space protection and programs, and a big advocate of trails demonstrated by his efforts in the Ridge Trail Project, a co-founder of the Trail Center, and as a former member of the Board of Directors of Whole Access; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District does he offer its sincere gratitude and appreciation to David Hansen for his life-long commitment and dedication to open space preservation, and providing trails and public access, and further offer heartfelt wishes for equal success in his retirement.
