HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080603 - Resolution - Board of Directors (BOD) Cover Sheet for Scanning by ECS Originating Department General Manager Laserfiche Template Board of Directors Template Fields Document Date: 12:00:00 AM Document Type: Resolution Preserve Name: Keywords (no more than 4): o 10A 9 y f Project Name: Project Number: Vendor or Other Party: Name (First): Name (Last): Address: APN Number: Document No, 08-23 Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: i I i RESOLUTION NO. 08-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MIDPENINSULA REGIONAL OPEN SPACE DISTRICT TO OPPOSE PROPOSITION 98 AND SUPPORT PROPOSITION 99 ON THE JUNE 2008 CALIFORNIA BALLOT WHEREAS, On June 3, 2008 voters will be asked to decide on Proposition 98, sometimes referred to as the California Property Owners and Farmland Protection Act; and WHEREAS, Proposition 98 could threaten water quality and supply because it could prohibit the acquisition of land and water through eminent domain to develop public water projects - threatening many future water projects intended to preserve clean drinking water, protect existing water resources, and secure additional water supply; and WHEREAS, the true purpose of Proposition 98 seems to be abolishing rent control in California; and WHEREAS, Proposition 98 would also hurt the environment and stop regulations that protect neighborhoods by prohibiting laws that protect our land, air, water and laws that protect our neighborhoods and home values; and WHEREAS, If passed, Proposition 98 could prohibit important environmental protections, including regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, laws to limit climate change, and other growth control measures intended to stop sprawl, check uncontrolled development, and to protect open space; WHEREAS, voters who want real eminent domain reform should vote for Proposition 99 - The Homeowners Protection Act—which will prohibit the government from using eminent domain to take a home and transfer it to a private developer. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District opposes Proposition 98 and supports Proposition 99.
