Whe►eas, the standard specifications for this contract provides for such work to be performed, the following change Is recommended.
General or Standard Change Order Explanation
Even though the GeoTech Report for this project states that, The foundation sods below the proposed subgrade treatment may exhibit wet, soft
and unstable condition under proofrolling and or construction traffic. If these soils cannot be compacted, it is recommended that 2 feet of the soft
sons be removed and replaced with B borrow. - The extent of the soft soils was not noted in the contract documents and exceeds the allowance
that was noted in the GeoTech report. After further discussions with the INDOT AE, the LPA, the GeoTech Report Engineer, and the contractor, it
was determined that the 2 foot undercut area would be filled with a bottom layer of geotextiles, 2 feet of No. 2 stone, and another layer of
geotextiles with fill placed on top of that. The area that Is being undercut is from station 15+74 to 17+79. To allow for the No. 2 stone to drain in
the bottom of this area, which is at structure 113, INGOT, the LPA, the contractor and the PENS decided to have a 6 In. drain pipe and No. 8 stone
installed along both sides of structure 113. This Change Order includes the overrun of items 0018, 0055, 0068, and 0078. A new item No.
0108-No. 2 Stone was added and the contractor has asked for 1 additional day to be added onto the contract. The unit price for the new pay item
is reasonable, based on a review of documents included in the cost analysis file located in the field office. The Project Manager for INDOT, Joe
Steady, is aware of this Change Order and a draft copy will be sent to him. The work is necessary to complete the original contract scope and as
such is considered participating.
