HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080924 - Resolution - Board of Directors (BOD) Cover Sheet for Scanning by ECS Originating Department General Manager Laserfiche Template Board of Directors - - Template Fields Document Date: 9/24/2008 Document Type: Resolution Preserve Name: Keywords (no more than 4): �-� 0� a LP,yI y�► Q ���S Project Name: Project Number: Vendor or Other Party: Name (First): Name (Last): Address: APN Number: Document No. 08-36 Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: Additional Field: F RESOLUTION NO. 08-36 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MIDPENINSULA REGIONAL OPEN SPACE DISTRICT HONORING LENNIE ROBERTS FOR OVER 40 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY WHEREAS, Lennie Roberts is one of the Bay Area's most dedicated and effective environmental advocates having provided advocacy work and leadership statewide and in San Mateo County since 1958; and WHEREAS, Lennie has worked for the Committee for Green Foothills for nearly 30 years and is its current Legislative Advocate for San Mateo County; and WHEREAS, Lennie has put her innovative ideas and energetic spirit to good use in the service of many causes and organizations such as the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Advisory Commission to which she was appointed by Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt in 1994 and on which she served until the Commission's work was completed in 2004; and WHEREAS, Lennie has made life on the Peninsula more healthy, more livable and more fun by leading the effort to build the Devil's Slide Tunnel, working for voter reauthorization of transportation tax Measure A, supporting County Park funding, calling for environmental review of many developments, helping save Bayfront Park, Menlo Park, fighting for the right alignment of Stanford Trails, advocating for farmland preservation on the coastside, watching out for logging in YMCA's Camp Jones Gulch, coordinating efforts on Pilarcitos and many other creeks; and WHEREAS, Lennie has received a number of well-deserved honors and awards, including the Carla Bard Award from the Planning and Conservation League, Conservationist of the Year from the Peninsula Conservation Center, the Josephine Duveneck Award from the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, and Greenbelt Alliance's Greenbelt Champion Award for her work to preserve the San Mateo County coastside; and WHEREAS, she was elected to the San Mateo County Women's Hall of Fame in 2003, was named by the Half Moon Bay Review as one of the top 25 people who shaped the San Mateo County Coast over the past century, has been honored as a Coastal Champion on the 25th Anniversary of the California Coastal Act; and WHEREAS, most importantly, Lennie participated in the formation of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and in 1976 was instrumental in the inclusion of southern San Mateo County into the District; and WHEREAS, over the years, Lennie provided sage advice helping the District's Coastside Protection Program succeed, greatly enhancing the District's effectiveness as a public agency while steadfastly protecting the District's ability to accomplish its good works. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, on behalf of its staff and its constituents, does hereby commend, applaud, and give its highest honors to Mrs. Lennie Roberts for her dedicated and unflagging work for open space, for making this region and this state a better place to live and for leaving a legacy of open space preservation to future generations.
