IN THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET
BE IT ORDAINED that the Mayor and Council does hereby establish the position of
Municipal Public Defender;
SCOPE OF DUTIES: Shall serve as Public Defender for the Municipal Court of the Borough
of Carteret. The Public Defender shall provide legal representation to indigent defendants
having been certified as such by the Judge of the Municipal Court. All cases shall be assigned
by the Municipal Court Judge after the proper application and filing fee pursuant to
N.J.S.A2B:12-28(b) is paid.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Public Defender shall be a licensed New Jersey Attorney with an
office in the State of New Jersey. The Public Defender should have experience in Municipal
Court matters.
TERM OF OFFICE; The term of office shall be for one (1) year commencing on January I st
and terminated on December 31st. The employee may only be terminated prior to the
expiration of said term upon just cause.
