CEOs met with parties at the scene and reminded them of Village Code pertaining to proper maintenance of dumpsters. CEOs issued a written warning and will monitor the property for compliance to code. CEOs monitor the placement of signs throughout the Village to ensure signs remain within code restrictions. CEOs noticed a For Sale sign at a residence in the Gated Community that was not within established parameters. CEOs contacted the affected real estate agent and informed them of the proper signage dimensions and pole restrictions, as well as issued a code violation warning. Code Enforcement Officers patrolling in the area of Park Drive noticed a home in need of maintenance. Its lawn was overgrown and the roof was soiled with dirt and debris. CEOs issued Criminal Investigations The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continues its investigation in to the alleged theft of a watch valued at $130,000. The victim purchased the watch via a wire transaction and claims the seller has not delivered the watch. Investigators learned of a third party involved as a possible middleman for the transaction. Detectives are working with t determine what evidence is needed for the case to proceed. Detectives concluded an investigation in the alleged theft of a ring valued at $27,000. The ring was shipped to the victim via UPS. Detectives interviewed all parties involved in the handling of the shipping box and viewed over 18 hours of video. The investigation revealed the package tampered with the open box or removed items from therein. UPS accepted a claim for the loss of the property. As a result, the ring may have been lost or stolen in transit, but not at its delivery destination. Detectives identified the person responsible for a series of harassing phone call made to an employee at a beachside hotel. The caller was identified as an acquaintance of the victim who resides in the City of Miami. The victim suspect that are already being handled in the courts and requested no further action on the part BHPD Weekly Report Week #28 July 16, 2020 Page 5 Summary of Noteworthy Calls for Service While conducting traffic enforcement along the Collins Avenue corridor, officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for unlawful speeding. During the course of the traffic stop, a computer check revealed a 07-12-2020 Assist Citizen 10200 Block of Collins Avenue Officers were summoned to the valet area regarding a male bleeding from the nose. Upon arrival, officer contacted the male, who told them he was fine and refused any medical attention. He told officer he injured himself in a boating accident and just wanted to go home. Moments later a taxi cab arrived, 07-12-2020 Assist Other Agency 1500 Block of 96 Street Bay Harbor Islands Police requested emergency back-up regarding females fighting. Bal Harbour officers arrived and the female combatants were detained. Bal Harbour officers remained on scene until Bay Harbor was able to conclude their investigation. After further investigation, Bay Harbor Island police 07-12-2020 Disturbance 9700 Collins Avenue Officers responded to a disturbance at a retailer in the Bal Harbour Shops. An irate customer was abusive with store employees and pounded on the storefront windows. The suspect left the area before 07-12-2020 Hit and Run Arrest 9700 Block of Collins Avenue responded and issued a BOLO for the vehicle throughout Miami-Dade County. Several hours later, the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. Bal Harbour officers interviewed and driver and arrested him for the hit and run. The male was transported to the Miami- 07-13-2020 Assist Other Agency 1330 West Ave, Oceanside Marine officers responded to a call for assistance from a Miami Beach officer encountering a man with a gun. Miami Beach officers conducted a search for the man who was caught of video attempting to steal a boat from a marina. Before Marine Units could arrive, the man fled from Miami Beach officers in BHPD Weekly Report Week #28 July 16, 2020 Page 6 07-15-2020 Disturbance 100 Block of Camden Dr. Loud music from a residence prompted neighbors to call the Bal Harbour Police Department for assistance. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the owners at the 07-15-2020 Suspicious Person 200 Block of Bal Bay Dr. An alert resident called the police to report a suspicious person on the property of a home in the Gated Community. Officers responded to the scene and discovered the suspicious person was a security 07-16-2020 Disturbance / Marchman Act 100 Block of Bal Bay Dr. Officers responded to an apartment in the Gated Community regarding a disturbance involving a male and a female. The male was under the influence of medication and was in an altered state. The girlfriend refused to press any charges against the male. After consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, the male was transported to a nearby facility under the Marchman Act. The act provides for emergency assistance and temporary detention for individuals requiring substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
