Subject: Building Department Virtual Inspections
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you that the Village Building Department
is expanding their services to better serve our community during this era of the Novel COVID-
19.
The Village Building Department has been performing Virtual Inspections as of July 16, 2020, in
order to facilitate required FBC inspections. In order to best accommodate our Building Industry
Customers’, the Village Building Department is using various video call applications in order to
perform the Florida Building Code required inspections.
The Building Department is allowing the Contractor to choose his/her preferred video call
application either Zoom App, Face Time or What’s App for use on his/her iPad, tablet or iPhone.
The procedures for virtual inspections are available on the Village Building Department web
page.
The Building Department is continuing to accept Inspections by Affidavit and performing in
person inspections for unoccupied new single-family homes.
In addition to virtual inspections, the Village has set up GoTo Meeting calendars for virtual
appointments with Building Department Permit Technicians, the Chief Building Inspector and
the Village Building Official.
The Village Building Department has set aside Friday’s as Design Professional day to facilitate
discussions with Design Professionals and our Chief Building Inspector/Plan Examiner and/or
the Building Official. Village Building Department Stakeholders can request an appointment
online at https://www.balharbourfl.gov/government/departments/building.
