OFFICE OF THE VILLAGE MANAGER LETTER TO COUNCIL
NO. 109-2020
To: Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
From: Jorge M. Gonzalez, Village Manager
Date: July 31, 2020
Subject: Hurricane Isaias
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to advise you of the preparations that the
Village administration has made in anticipation of Hurricane Isaias.
This system has become the first major storm to threaten South Florida since the start of
the current hurricane season. As of the latest NOAA advisory at 11 AM EDT today, NOAA
research planes have spotted Hurricane Isaias at about 295 miles southeast of Nassau and
maintaining a category 1 status of 75 mph. The storm is expected to continue tracking
north-northwest, reaching Florida’s Atlantic shoreline by Saturday. Although the storm is
not anticipated to impact the Village directly, Bal Harbour remains under tropical storm
warning (winds expected in excess of 39 mph) with conditions expected to begin
impacting our area on Saturday.
As outlined in the Village’s Critical Incident Operations Plan, the administration has
instituted the following actions in preparation for the storm:
• Essential personnel, namely Police and Public Works, will remain on shift for debris
clearance and critical emergencies.
• Construction work in the Village has ceased as of 5 PM.
• Village personnel will continue to monitor the storm.
Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to call
Chief Raleigh Flowers or me directly.
