Minutes of Public Hearing
Thursday, July 9 , 2020
The Brewster Old King ' s Highway Regional Historic District Committee , acting under the
Massachusetts General Laws , Chapter 470 , Acts of 1973 as amended came to order remotely at
7 : 00 pm . Committee members present were Carol Appleton , Steven Bergquist , George Carey ,
Jim Trabulsie ( Chairman ) , Tom Turcketta and Sara Provos ( Senior Department Assistant ) , Patricia
Busch was not present .

John Pels, 140 Old Valley Road , Map 101 Lot 14
Deck
■ Applicant was represented by contractor John Brintnall .
■ Updated plans were not provided for this meeting .
■ Mr . Brintnall stated he would like to provide a drawing that would include plantings
and / or hedges to screen the deck .
■ Mr . Trabulsie stated that the homeowner / contractor was approved for a smaller deck
that would be 24 foot in length on the front of the home via Exemption E - 5 - 20 - 62 .
■ Carol Appleton motioned to continue to the August 6 , 2020 meeting . Steven Bergquist
seconded .
■ All voted in favor .
SCHEDULED APPLICATIONS

Robert Boucher, 164 Main Street, Map 6 Lot 20
Siding
■ Jasen Muto of Muto Construction represented the property owner .
■ Mr . Muto stated that the home originally had wood clapboard and the homeowner asked
to have it changed to a maintenance free 4 " vinyl siding .
■ Sara Provos read into record several abutter letters received in favor of the application .
■ Mr . Trabulsie reminded the committee members that they were to discuss whether or
not the vinyl siding is appropriate on Main Street and no other factors of the project .
■ Tom Turcketta motioned to deny the application . George Carey seconded .
■

Daniel and Christine Switz, 176 Paines Creek Road , Map 36 Lot 21
Dormer
■ The homeowners represented themselves .
■ Mr . Trabulsie read into record the specification sheet for the dormer on the rear of the
home .
■ The applicant stated that the dormer exterior would match the existing home in regards
to roof color and siding .
■ Tom Turcketta moved to accept as proposed . Carol Appleton seconded .
■ All voted in favor .

30 Swift Lane LLC, 30 Swift Lane , Map 69 Lot 97
Addition
■ Homeowner was represented by Alison Alessi of A3 Architects Inc .
■ Ms . Alessi provided an update to the Committee members on the plans for the addition .
■ Carol Appleton mentioned that the roof lines appear to be different and that the
buildings appear to be two structures that do not speak to each other .
■ Sara Provos read into record an abutter letter from Mr . and Mrs . Boyd .
■ Mr . Trabulsie stated that his original concern was that he did not want to see the original
cottage demolished and appreciates the effort being made to preserve the existing
cottage .
■ Mr . Bergquist noted that the drawings show Solar Panels , however the Solar Panels are
not part of this application and will have to be applied for under a separate COA .
■ Tom Turcketta moved to continue this application to the July 23 , 2020 meeting . Carol
Appleton seconded .
■ All voted in favor .

Sign
■ Thomas J . Devane , Project Director , Corcoran Jennison Company , Inc . represented the applicant .
■ The application is to remove the existing sign and replace with a new sign .
■ The sign will be double sided , white with blue lettering .
■ Mr . Trabulsie stated that the lettering cannot be a gloss finish and must be a matte or satin finish .
■ Tom Turcketta moved to accept as presented . George Carey seconded .
■ All voted in favor .
