Gonzalez, Village Manager Date: August 21, 2020 Subject: Tropical Storm Laura The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to advise you of the preparations that the Village administration has made in anticipation of Tropical Storm Laura. The Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management is monitoring Tropical Storm (TS) Laura in the Atlantic Ocean, currently 175 miles ESE of the Northern Leeward Islands. Laura is moving W at 18 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH and with a continued trajectory moving further South and away from the Florida peninsula. Tropical Storm Watches are possible sometime on Saturday, August 22. As outlined in the Village’s Critical Incident Operations Plan, the administration and Village personnel will continue to monitor the storm. Please see attached Advisory which has been sent via our electronic means to Village residents. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to let me know. Tropical Storm Watches are possible sometime on Saturday, August 22. • Bal Harbour Village is implementing its hurricane plan, and residents are urged to monitor weather reports, implement their personal hurricane plans and prepare accordingly. • The Village Emergency Management Team has implemented their hurricane plan, and will be monitoring the situation and provide community updates as necessary. • Public Works is actively checking storm drains and removing debris from our streets. • Residents should not add any items or debris to the curb that could become projectiles during the storm. • Condominium residents are encouraged to remove any items from their balconies that could become projectiles during the storm. • All contractors have been instructed to secure their sites in preparation for the storm. • We continue to urge residents to sign up for Bal Harbour Alerts, which will be sent directly to your cell phone.
