Re-inspections included for properties with overgrown vegetation, one property with an overgrown tree affecting the public right—of-way, one property cited for damaging electrical lines while digging, one property cited for removing a tree without a permit, and one property warned for having debris on the right-of-way. In all instances, the property owners warned or cited Criminal Investigations The Criminal Investigative Division (CID) worked with detectives from the Boca Raton Police Department to identify and interview a suspect involved in a fraud at two retailers in the Bal Harbour Shops. The suspect charged over $10,000 using fraudulent accounts. Detectives are now working with the State Attorney’s Office to secure an arrest warrant on the case. The CID is investigating two unrelated hit-and-run crash cases that occurred in the parking lot of the Bal Harbour Shops. The tags on the suspect vehicles were linked to rental car agencies. Detectives are Summary of Noteworthy Calls for Service 08/28/2020 Theft 9700 Collins Avenue, BHS Officers were dispatched to the Gucci boutique located inside Neiman Marcus regarding Officers made contact with the loss prevention manager, she told them a male and female suspect entered the store and began perusing the merchandise in the store. Store surveillance video shows the female suspect concealing a piece of merchandise and exiting the store without paying. This case has 08/29/2020 Traffic Incident 10100 Block of Collins Avenue Officers were conducting proactive traffic enforcement along the Collins Avenue corridor; a traffic stop was performed on a vehicle traveling northbound. During the course of the traffic stop, a computer check revealed the driver did not have a valid license and the vehicle had a “seize tag” order. The driver 08/31/2020 Motor Vehicle Accident Bal Bay Drive & 96 Street A vehicle travelling east on 96 Street lost power while on the crest of the Bay Harbour Islands The owner began pushing the vehicle which rolled out of control, swerving north across all lanes of traffic and coming to rest on the north side sidewalk by the Bal Harbour Park. The vehicle damaged the chain link fence, hedges and finally crashed into a Miami-Dade water meter box. Miami-Dade Fire Department responded and secured the meter box. Additionally, Florida Power & Light responded to ensure that the meter was not powered. Bal Harbour public works supervisor, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer were notified of the damaged property. Photos were taken and the area was secured and taped BHPD Weekly Report Week #35 September 4, 2020 Page 5 08/31/2020 Vehicle Theft 10178 Collins Avenue Officer were dispatched to investigate a missing vehicle, the reporter told officers he last saw his vehicle the night before. Officers contacted local tow companies to ensure the vehicle was not towed from the premise, however, the contacts revealed the vehicle had not been towed. The reporter told officers he left his keys in the vehicle, a review of video surveillance in the area revealed two unknown suspects entering the victim’s vehicle and fleeing the scene. 08/31/2020 Battery 70 Park Drive, Parking Lot Officers were flagged down by an individual who advised he had just been altercation with one of his neighbors. Officers were able to speak with both individuals involved and determined they were both involved in a physical altercation. There were no independent witnesses or video surveillance of the incident, both parties did not wish to pursue the matter and were referred to 09/01/2020 Baker Act 9700 Collins Avenue Officers responded to the bus bay area located in front of the Bal Harbour Shops regarding a male screaming obscenities. Officers observed a male screaming and making incoherent statements, he was in a clear state of mental crisis. Officers detained him and placed him into the rear of their vehicle, the male began kicking inside the vehicle and broke several pieces of equipment. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and assisted with securing the male to a gurney and transporting him to Aventura Hospital 09/01/2020 Trespass Warning 9705 Collins Avenue, St. Regis Bal Harbour police officers were summoned to the St. Regis residential tower regarding The investigation revealed that a female was found by security attempting to access their facilities. The female left the area prior to our officers arriving. An area canvass was conducted and the female was 09/01/2020 Assist Other Agency Oceanside Miami Beach and 40 Street The Bal Harbour Marine Patrol officer responded to a distress call of a missing scuba diver in the oceanside of Miami Beach.
