Summary of Activities and Events
Cod e Enf orcement
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) noticed a commercial vehicle with advertisements parked along
the 100 Block of Bal Bay Drive. CEOs contacted the property owner and reminded them of the
ordinance prohibiting the vehicle from displaying signs in the evenings. CEOs issued a verbal
warning and will coordinate with patrol officers to ensure the signage is not visible after hours.
Code Officers patrolling the gated community on a Sunday discovered a commercial delivery at a
property on Camden Drive. CEOs made contact with the homeowners and reminded them of the
restrictions on Sundays and holidays. Since the items were already delivered, CEOs issued the
homeowner a written code violation warning.
Code Enforcement assisted the Building Department by issuing a code violation notice to a
beachside condominium. Inspections by the Building Department revealed work was started
without the necessary permits.
Code Enforcement met with representatives of a beachside condominium to discuss short-term
rentals possibly violating Village Codes. The building staff will gather all corroborating
documentation and present to the Code Officer. Code Enforcement will meet with building staff to
determine if any violations occurred.

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID)is actively investigating a fraud offense that occurred in
August 2020. An elderly male fell victim to the “injured persons” scam. The suspects told him his
granddaughter was injured in an accident and asked for cash so they could help his granddaughter.
The victim surrendered $28,000 in cash. Investigators viewed several thousand images from license
plate readers in Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles, Miami Beach, Bay Harbour Islands, and cities north to
Hallandale Beach. Two vehicles matched the description used by the suspects. CID will continue
their follow-up investigation.
The CID continues its investigation of a fraud that occurred at a retailer in the Bal Harbour Shops.
The suspects used fraudulent accounts to purchase over $10,000 in merchandise. The items were
shipped to an address at the Patrick Air Force base in Melbourne, Florida. Detectives are working
with Air Force investigators to determine when and where the items were delivered.
