SUBJECT: FPL and Atlantic Broadband Performing Work on Collins Avenue
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you of the following two private electrical
companies with infrastructure improvement projects and request for lane closures who will be
performing work on Collins Avenue over the next few weeks.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) subcontractor Jordan High Voltage (JHV) begins work on Monday,
October 26, 2020 evening from 9:00pm to 6:00am (Monday thru Friday) for approximately two
weeks. The scope of work is inside FPL manholes inspection and cleaning spare conduits for
new high voltage electrical cables. Areas of lane closure starts at Haulover Bridge south bound
(one lane closed) with exact work location on the west side of Collins Avenue near the Quarzo
Hotel (290 Bal Bay Drive). The lane closure ends in front of Bal Bridge South Apartments (10230
Collins Avenue). A second lane closure is in front of Oceana Condominium 10201 Collins
Avenue).
In addition, Atlantic Broadband has two infrastructure projects scheduled to start on the east
side of Collins Avenue with one lane closure at a time. The first traffic lane closure starts at Bal
Harbour 101 Condominium (10155 Collins Avenue) with 357 linear feet of new cables pulled
onto existing conduits. Actual work will be in the swale area and pedestrian traffic will be
allowed to traverse north and south. The wo rk is scheduled to start November 2, 2020 during
the day from 9:30am to 4:00pm (Monday thru Friday) with expected completion date of
November 5, 2020. Attached is the Atlantic Broadband maintenance of traffic lane closure
plans for this project . Atlantic Broadband ’s second project is in front of Bal Moral
Condominium (9801 Collins Avenue) installing 725 linear feet (heading north) of new electrical
conduits using the method of underground directional boring. Actual work will be in the swale
area and pedestrian traffic w ill be allowed to traverse north and south. The work is scheduled
to start November 9, 2020, during the day from 9:30am to 4:00pm (Monday thru Friday) with
completion date November 18, 2020.
Bal Harbour Village Police and/or Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) will monitor the area and work
to mitigate any traffic and safety issues that may arise.
