While in the area of the 100 Block of Bal Bay Drive, CEOs discovered a property not properly maintained. CEOs issued a code violation warning and notified the owner of the deficiency. CEOs saw a second property not meeting appearance requirements on the 100 Block of Bal Cross Drive and issued a code violation warning to the property owner. CEOs will re -visit all warned properties to ensure deficiencies are corrected. Criminal Investigations The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) supported Police Administration by updating Department forms. The forms were updated to reflect current information and logos. The CID revised an antiquated form used for enforcement of impaired driving laws to ensure statutory requirements. The CID participated in a conference call with attorneys representing a deceased resident of Bal Harbour. During the call, detectives and attorneys discussed the merits of the case and why current information did not support a criminal charge. The attorneys were encouraged to continue their resolution of probate issued in the civil court system. Investigators are finalizing the background investigation of an applicant for the position of Police Reserve Officer. The background process ensures potential employees meet all Village standards and expectations. Summary of Noteworthy Calls for Service 10/30/2020 Thef t 9700 CollinsAvenue Two males entered the DSQUARED 2 store located in the Bal Harbour Shops. The males were captured on store security cameras entering the store and removing merchandise from a shelf. Both males concealed the merchandise and exited the store without paying. Officers responded and canvassed the area, however were unable to locate the suspects. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for follow-up. 10/30/2020 Stolen License Plate Arrest 9700 Collins Avenue While conducting a traffic enforcement utilizing our License Plate Reader technology, a Bal Harbour officer received an alert of a stolen license plate. The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was initiated. A history check revealed the driver/owner had a suspended driver's license. The tag was impounded and the driver was arrested for the theft of the tag and driving with a suspended driver's license. The male was allowed to sign a Promise to Appear (PTA) in court and released on the scene. BHPD Weekly Report Week #44 November 05, 2020 Page 5 10/30/2020 While on routine patrol in the North Lot, a Bal Harbour officer discovered an occupied vehicle by the Ritz -Carlton loading dock. The investigation revealed the driver had an invalid drivers' license and extensive criminal history. Ritz's personnel issued the male a trespass warning prohibiting him from returning to the property. The vehicle was towed and the male left the property. No criminal activity was reported. 11/01/2020 Domestic Disturbance 10275 • Officers responded to a report of a loud argument on the fifth floor of the Harbour House. Officers arrived and observed a male and female arguing in the doorway of an apartment. Officers separated the parties in an effort to de-escalate the situation. The parties reside together and were arguing over the need to wear a facial covering. There were no indications of violence and the female voluntarily left the apartment for the evening. 11/02/2020 Theft • 11 Collins Avenue During a routine merchandise audit, Gucci store associates discovered merchandise missing from the shelf. After reviewing in-store security cameras, officers observed a male enter the store and retrieve merchandise from the display and walk away. The Criminal Investigations Division will conduct a further follow-up investigation. 11/05/2020 Traffic inddent • 11 CollinsAvenue While conducting a traffic enforcement utilizing our License Plate Reader technology, a Bal Harbour officer received an alert regarding a state issued seize tag order. The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was initiated. A history check revealed the driver/owner had a suspended driver's license. The tag was impounded and the driver was issued a citation. 11/05/2020 Assist Surfside Police Department 9100 CollinsAvenue Pursuant to a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for a stolen vehicle issued by Surfside, a Bal Harbour officer utilized our LPR (License Plate Reader) technology and tracked the stolen vehicle to North Miami Beach's jurisdiction.
