Summary of Activities and Events
Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) patrolling the gated community observed a residence on the
200 Block of Park Drive with an unkept yard. CEOs issued the homeowner a code violation warning
directing owner to mow the lawn.
A commercial truck with painted advertisements on its side drew the attention of CEOs patrolling
the gated community. The truck was parked at a construction site and its signage was clearly visible.
CEOs noticed the signage was not properly covered after working hours and issued a code violation
warning. Within two hours of receiving the notice, the contractor covered the side of the truck so it
would comply with Village codes.
CEOs noticed a construction site without the necessary fence screen in place. The contractor
reported he ordered new screening and would install it upon receipt. CEOs issued a code violation
warning and will return to the site to ensure proper screening is installed.
Code Officers issued a warning to a construction site on the 200 Block of Bal Bay for failing to
properly protect drains from soiled runoff materials. The contractor was instructed to correct the
deficiency and the site will be reinspected to ensure compliance.
The Code Enforcement Unit assisted the Finance Department by contacting businesses at the Bal
Harbour Shops that failed to provide business tax receipt information for the year. CEOs met with
employees at 53 retailers and notified them to immediately contact the Finance Department.
Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continues its cooperation with the Miami -Dade Police
Department's investigation of a fraud case involving a Village check. Detectives from Miami -Dade
met with Village finance personnel and obtained the necessary information to proceed with the
case. Village detectives met with the Miami -Dade detectives and provided additional information
on the investigation.
The CID assisted Patrol Division in promoting the Department of Motor Vehicle's Save Mobility for
Life initiative. Detectives uploaded video training material to the Department's network for
distribution to all officers. The CID also forwarded electronic copies of a driver's resource manual
to all police personnel and ordered hard copies from DHSMV for distribution.
Detectives reviewed a check fraud allegation filed by a beachside condominium. The case involved
a fraudulent check cashed against the condominium's bank account. The investigation revealed the
crime occurred outside of Bal Harbour's jurisdiction and detectives guided the victim to the proper
police agency for assistance.
The CID promoted the "No Shave November" as a fundraiser for cancer research. The initiative
allows participants donating to cancer research grow facial hair during the month of November.
There are currently 17 people participating with a combined donation of $1,080.
