January 2022
spy /flew 4K,&-.i
We welcome 2022 with great optimism, and look forward to your participation in
many of our in-house afternoon activities and Thursday movies, shuttle bus trips
for shopping or special excursions, and popular Zoom programs.
The January calendar is filled with activities that we hope will give you a lift
throughout this chilly winter month. We will be starting a new group that will explore
loss and life changes, and strategies for coping with loss through sharing,
reflection, and readings. It will be offered on Zoom to participate from the comfort
of your home. We will be doing Zoom tours of the John F. Kennedy Presidential
Library and Museum, and the Concord Museum, and will be offering a Zoom
program about the T with the MBTA Travel Training Program. Debra Block returns
to host a Zoom program about actress Meryl Streep, and another in -person
session of Flowers with Ernie is on the calendar. The Senior Shuttle Bus continues
to be on the road by appointment to take you to Stop & Shop, Market Basket,
Trader Joe's, Target, and Roche Brothers. For those of you who haven't used the
service yet, the shuttle will come to your door and deliver you back home. Call us
to arrange your ride today.
Sincere thanks to the Friends of the Watertown COA for their support of our recent
grab-n-go meal event, and to all of you who support our efforts. And finally, a
special note of thanks to Margie Wayne who has retired from her position at the
Senior Center. We appreciate all she has done for us and for you, and she will be
greatly missed.
From all of us, Cheers to 2022!

. Book Club
Zoom & In -Person at COA
Wednesday, January 12 at 10 am
We will be discussing The Paris Library by Janet
Skeshen Charles. "A love letter to Paris, the power of
books, and the beauty of intergenerational
friendship," this book, based on the true story of
the heroic librarians at the American Library in
Paris during WWII, shows that extraordinary
heroism can sometimes be found in the quietest
places. The book moves back and forth from Paris
in 1939 to Montana in 1983, from Odile, who has
her perfect job at the American Paris Library until
the Nazis march into Paris, to Lily, a lonely
teenager looking for adventure in small-town
Montana. As Lily uncovers more about her
neighbor's mysterious past, she finds that they
share a love of language, the same longings, and
the same intense jealousy, never suspecting that a
dark secret from the past connects them.

ARE YOU A COMPUTER GURU?
The Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging
need help in creating a website and a presence on
Facebook for our non-profit organization. It would
be wonderful if some of our "friends" with comput-
er skills and "know how" would volunteer to guide
us through this technical creative process. Next
Friends' Meeting is Thursday, January 13 at 2 pm.
Please contact Mary Keenan, President,
at 617-926-5296 or mtmckeenan@aol.com. if you
qualify and are willing.
