HomeMy Public PortalAbout2021.01.13 Rick Fereday to Alexandra and Scott re STRAlexandra and Scott, I am writing you to protest the use of 324 Forest St as a short term rental.  I am your neighbor on two sides of your property (south and west). As a native Idahoan and a nearly fifty year resident of McCall I am adamantly opposed to short term rentals. Here is why:  The renters of these properties have little concern about local residents and usually pack as many people into these facilities as possible with an overflow of vehicles and trailers (boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs). This practice is from unsightly on one end to downright dangerous when renters have trucks and trailers clogging snowy streets. When they leave the trash cans are overflowing and generally scattered along the road by bears and dogs since they care little to ensure the animal proof containers are latched. They are here to party and don’t think about neighbors. Noise has been an issue for adjacent neighbors.  We have seen this first hand many times. This has impacted the quiet enjoyment of our neighborhood and it greatly upsets us. The bigger issue, frankly, is that the owners of these properties suck up the available housing, drive prices up and are operating a COMMERCIAL ENTITY in residential neighborhoods while disenfranchising local workers who can no longer afford to live here.   I have followed closely our local and State laws and views and realize that there is little I can do except to complain when renters break the law.  So unfair to us long term residents who have lived our whole lives here only to have outsiders come in to force their wills upon us.  I will work hard to change those laws. I realize writing this that I may seem like a curmudgeon. So be it if that is what you perceive.  I am willing to take some insult to protect the community that I love.  Rick Fereday 315 Burns and 330 Forest St. 208 634 8079   By the way - I have opted to rent 330 Forest St. LONG TERM and considerably under market rent so that a local family can afford to live in our community. Ask them about me if you doubt my authenticity. CC :  Michelle Groenevelt - McCall Planning Administrator  All City Council members and Mayor
