AIN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A VOLUNTEER CHAPLAIN CORPS
FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENTS
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of
Carteret as follows:
Section 1. There is hereby created the position of Chaplain and Associa
Chaplain for the various Borough Emergency Service
Departments, to be known as the Chaplain Corps for the respectil
Department, and the number and designation of such Chaplain ar
Associate Chaplain positions shall be determined pursuant to tl
appointment of such, from time to time, by the he Mayor and/,
Appropriate Authority.
Section 2. The appointment of any Chaplain or Associate Chaplain shall F
on an annual basis with all appointments expiring as of Decemba
31 of each year.
Section 3. It shall be the function of the Chaplain Corps to provide spiritual
guidance Rod pastoral care to members of the respective
Emergency Services Department
Section4. Any person appointed as Chaplain or Associate Chaplain shall:
A. Be an ordained clergy member in good standing in the
religious body from which he or she is selected;
B. Serve on a voluntary basis, without salary;
C. Report to the Mayor or Appropriate Authority; and
D. Perform other special assignments, consistent with his/her
training in spiritual guidance that may be requested by the
Mayor or Appropriate Authority.
Section 5. All ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with the provision of
this ordinance are hereby repealed limited to the extent of any
such inconsistency.
Sectian 6. If any section, paragraph, sub - division, clause or provision of this
ordinance is adjudged invalid, such adjudication shall apply only
to the section, paragraph, sub - division, clause or provision so
adjudged and the remainder of this ordinance shall be deemed
valid and effective.
Section 7. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication
according to applicable law.
