RESOLUTION OPPOSING A -3199, INCREASING CERTAIN
Pn ^ RS ANT) SPRS BENEFITS
WHEREAS, A -3199 under current law, the Police and Firemen's Retirement System (PFRS) and
the State Police Retirement System (SPAS) provides that upon the death of any member of the
retirement system while in active service or after retirement, the member's widow or widower
receives a pension of 50% of final compensation; and
WHEREAS, this bill increases the survivor's pension death benefit from 50% to 60% of the final
compensation; and
WHEREAS, this bill also extends the age for children to be eligible to receive a survivor's death
benefit under PFRS and SPRS from 18 to 22 years of age; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carteret strongly oppose A -3199; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor of
the State of New Jersey, Senator Joseph Vitale and Assemblymen John Wisniewski and Craig
Coughlin, Assemblyman Gilbert "Whip" L. Wilson and the New Jersey State League of
Municipalities.
