WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT
AFFECTED AREAS: HUNT STREET, MAPLE STREET AT GALEN STREET
The Watertown Department of Public Works, through its contractor, C. Naughton Corporation, will
be replacing the water main on Hunt Street beginning the week of August 20t", 2018. Also
included in the work is a water main connection on Maple Street at Galen Street. The scope of work
will include replacement and upgrade of the water main, upgrades to water main services from the
main to the curb stop, hydrants, and miscellaneous other work on these streets. The work is being
performed to improve water quality, pressure, and fire flow rates to your area.
A temporary by-pass system will be installed before the actual construction begins. The contractor
will need access to your home to complete connection of the by-pass. You will be notified when
access for the connection is required. Water will be supplied to homes at all times throughout the
project duration using this temporary by-pass piping. All homes either serviced by and or/providing
water to this temporary system and will not be billed for water consumption during the course of this
project. Should any problems arise with this by-pass system, please call Public Works at 617-972-
6420.
During the course of this work, you will experience short periods of discoloration and reduced
pressure. You will also experience inconveniences to vehicular travel and parking. On -street
parking will not be allowed near the work area during this period; however access to driveways will
be maintained at all times. Roads around the work area will be closed to through traffic.
The expected work hours on Hunt Street are from 7 AM to 3:30 PM. Please note that the
connections at Galen Street will require night work to provide adequate traffic control. You will be
notified of night work 48 hours prior to the work.
As described above, the scope of this project includes the replacement and upgrade of your water
service from the corporation (at the main in the street) to the curb stop (usually located in the grass
strip or sidewalk). The rest of the service (to your home) is your responsibility. You may wish to
take this opportunity to upgrade your service in order to maximize the benefits of these
improvements and to replace any deficient materials, such as lead or iron, with copper pipe. For
information as to the material present in your private water service, please contact the Public Works
Department. We also suggest that homeowners use this opportunity to review residential interior
plumbing and appurtenances (e.g. hot water heaters).
You will be notified of any specific water system shutdown procedure 48 hours beforehand, except
in emergency situations. We stand committed to making every possible effort to keep any/all
disruptions to a minimum and the work completed in a timely fashion.
Anyone who has questions or a special need during this period of construction, please call the
Public Works Department at 617-972-6420.
