HomeMy Public PortalAboutCHAP 72 Pedestrians.pdf CHAPTER 72: PEDESTRIANS SECTION 72.00 Definitions 72.01 Pedestrians Subject to Traffic-control Devices 72.02 Crossing at Right Angles 72.03 Prohibited Crossing 72.04 Obedience to Railroad Signals 72.05 Penalty (Ord. 98-1995) 72.00 DEFINITIONS The definitions set forth in Section 70.01 apply throughout Chapter 72. 72.01 PEDESTRIANS SUBJECT TO TRAFFIC-CONTROL DEVICES Pedestrians shall be subject to traffic-control signals as declared in 70.38 and 70.39, but at all other places pedestrians shall be granted those rights and be subject to the restrictions stated in this chapter. (Ord. 1781-1960) 72.02 CROSSING AT RIGHT ANGLES No pedestrian shall cross a roadway at any place other than by a route at right angles to the curb or by the shortest route to the opposite curb except in a crosswalk. (Ord. 1781-1960) 72.03 PROHIBITED CROSSING (a) Between adjacent intersections at which traffic-control signals are in operation, pedestrians shall not cross at any place except in a crosswalk. (b) No pedestrian shall cross a roadway other than in a crosswalk in any business district. (Ord. 1781-1960) 72.04 OBEDIENCE TO RAILROAD SIGNALS No pedestrian shall pass through, around, over, or under any crossing gate or barrier at a railroad grade crossing while the gate or barrier is closed or is being opened or closed. (Ord. 1781-1960) 72.05 PENALTY (a) Any pedestrian violating this chapter shall be fined $5.00. (b) It shall be the duty of the police officers of the City to issue tickets for violations of this chapter. The tickets shall include the name of the pedestrian, his or her address, the section number of this Chapter which was violated or the violation number shown on the reverse side of the ticket, and the date, time and place of the violation. (c) All fines imposed by this Chapter shall be paid to the City Clerk. (d) Any fine not paid within 14 days of the date shown on the ticket shall be increased by a late fee of $10.00, (e) Failure to pay a fine within 30 days of the date shown on the ticket shall result in an enforcement action being filed in Wayne Superior Court No. 3 -Small Claims Division.
