PRIEST ROAD UPDATE
September 5, 2017
Dear Priest Road Abutter:
We would like to provide an update to work on Priest Road. The water main work is
complete. During sewer repairs on Priest Road, the need for additional sewer main
replacement was identified. DPW is working with its Contractor to schedule the work, which is
expected to commence in the next one to two weeks and take two to three weeks.
We appreciate the patience residents have had during this long process of upgrading the gas
main last year, water main this summer, and now upcoming sewer work. The upgrade and
replacement of utilities is a prerequisite for roadway reconstruction for all streets in
Town. Street conditions are reviewed on an annual basis to develop our road reconstruction
plan. We are currently developing the 2018 program.
Due to the extraordinary condition of Priest Road due to the multiple utility projects, we have
determined that the road reconstruction process should be accelerated, rather than provide
trench repairs now followed by future reconstruction. With that in mind, we intend to begin by
performing pavement reclamation followed by binder (first) course paving this construction
season to provide a safe road surface. Installation of granite curbing, new concrete sidewalk,
and final coating will then be scheduled for next year.
Again, we appreciate your patience as these necessary infrastructure repairs are
completed. You will be notified again prior to sewer main reconstruction and subsequent road
reconstruction activities.
