A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING
THE MIAMI-DADE SCHOOL BOARD'S LEGISLATIVE
PLATFORM; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,the Village of Key Biscayne, Florida (the "Village") has made a commitment
to improving education for its residents; and
WHEREAS, the Village and the Miami -Dade School Board (the "School Board") have
partnered together in this effort through improvements at the MAST Academy and the Key Biscayne
K-8 Center; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of this effort, the Village Council desires to support the School
Board's legislative platform; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and welfare
of the residents of the Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals Adopted. Each of the above stated recitals are hereby adopted,
confirmed and incorporated herein.
Section 2, Support, The Village Council hereby supports the following School Board's
legislative platform.
Funding:
Increase the state's investment in public education by:
Increasing the current per student funding of $7,096.96 by 5 percent to $7,452 total
per student;
�% I n c r e a s i n g S a f e S c h o o l s F u n d i n g t o p r e - r e c e s s i o n a r y l e v e l s o f m i n i m a l l y $ 7 7 . 1
m i l l i o n a n d r e v i s e t h e f u n d i n g f o r m u l a s o t h a t e a c h s c h o o l d i s t r i c t g e t s 5 0 p e r c e n t o f
i t s p r e v i o u s y e a r ' s a c t u a l e x p e n d i t u r e s f r o m t h e s t a t e ;
�% I n c r e a s i n g E x c e p t i o n a l S t u d e n t E d u c a t i o n f u n d i n g t o p r e - r e c e s s i o n a r y l e v e l s o f $ 1 . 1
b i l l i o n ;
�% M o d i f y i n g t h e c a l c u l a t i o n o f t h e F T E a t 1 . 0 t o e x c l u d e v i r t u a l c o u r s e s t a k e n d u r i n g
t h e s u m m e r a n d t h e p r o r a t i o n o f b o t h E S E a n d E L L w e i g h t s ;
�% E x t e n d i n g a n d f u n d i n g a l o n g e r s c h o o l y e a r f o r a l l s t u d e n t s ;

S e c t i o n 3 . T r a n s m i t t a l . T h e V i l l a g e C l e r k i s h e r e b y a u t h o r i z e d t o t r a n s m i t t h i s
R e s o l u t i o n t o t h e C l e r k o f t h e S c h o o l B o a r d .
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon
adoption.
