HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 14-214Pzolaztion of toe poroug4 of aurteret, Y, T_ No. 14 -214 Date of Adoption 16, 2014 OPPOSING SENATE BILL S -264 WHEREAS, Senate Bill S -264, released by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey; and WHEREAS, S -264, concerns workers' compensation for public safety workers, specifically this bill would create a rebuttable presumption that if, in the course of employment, a public safety worker is exposed to a carcinogen or pathogen, that any subsequent injury, disability, chronic or corollary illness or death is compensable ruder workers' compensation; and WHEREAS, S -264 in its current form is the most expensive bill of its type in the country and needlessly subsidized the Federal Government at the expense of the New Jersey taxpayers; and WHEREAS, the New Jersey League of Municipalities strongly opposes S -264 as released and has requested that all of its members to go on record similarly opposing the same. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Cormcil of the Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows: 1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby opposes Senate Bill S -264 and recommends creation of a study commission to examine the issue outside of workers' compensation. 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of Municipalities, Municipal Excess Liability Joint Insurance Fund, the New Jersey First Aid Council and Senator Joseph Vitale, Assemblyman Craig Coughlin and Assemblyman John Wisniewski.
