Queue Jump Lane
As part of a larger project intended to improve bus travel on Mt. Auburn St,
the Town of Watertown has implemented two queue jump lanes that allow
the bus to travel more quickly through intersections. During the morning
rush hour (7:00 to 9:00 AM), on the inbound side (toward Cambridge) of Mt.
Auburn Street leading up to Walnut Street and School Street, the parking lane
will be used for buses and right -turning cars only. This will allow drivers turn-
ing right on School Street or Walnut Street to go without waiting for a green
light, which will help the buses move to the front of the line, and proceed
through the intersection.
What this means for:
DRIVERS: Drivers making a right turn may use the queue jump lane ap-
proaching the intersection. No parking in this lane will be allowed between
7:00-9:00 am. Drivers should remain behind bus if present.
BUS RIDERS: Expect to spend less time waiting in traffic to cross the
intersections
PEDESTRIANS: Look left for turning vehicles as right turns are now per-
mitted on red
CYCLISTS: Use the queue jump lane to turn right but not to travel straight
through the intersection
