ELLEN TAYLOR
Age: 61
Occupation: Office Manager/Community Volunteer
I am running for City Council to bring my experience as a community
leader and volunteer to the council. Respect, consensus and vision
will be my watchwords.
Respect will be the premise of my campaign: respect
. for the validity of other people's concerns and experiences,
. for. including residents in decision making,
. for history and our cultural heritage, and
. for the sincerity and competence of our city staff.
Consensus building is one of the core attributes of leadership.
Because of my ability to help groups arrive at consensus, I have been
elected president or board chair of organizations as varied as
Claremont's Traffic and Transportation Commission, Claremont
League of Women Voters, and Claremont Chamber of Commerce.
With your help and vote, I can bring this background and skill to the
City Council.
Claremont is a special place to live and work. Previous Councils made
wise decisions that have made Claremont unique in Southern
California. More work and vision are needed to keep our community
that way. I hope to carry that vision to a City Council dedicated to
working together for the common good.
Please cast a vote for me on March 8th.

FOR MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL
LLEWELLYN MILLER
Age: 56
Occupation: Investment Consultant
Contrary to some views, progressive policies and competent
investment decision-making are not incompatible. They can even be
found in the same person. My first term accomplishments include: (i)
increased internet access to City documents; (ii) initiatives to address
problems in police-citizen contacts; (iii) rescission of the 1999
Employee of the Year awards; (iv) a City of Claremont, City of Pomona
and CUSD collaboration to address disparities in child outcomes; and
(v) the establishment of the Civil Liberties Education and Reporting
Program. I opposed a risky though popular scheme to preserve The
Packing House, but supported a safer alternative. I have worked to
improve city-college relations and have advocated for families with
children.
With rising prices and a shrinking supply of undeveloped land, land use
will continue to be a major issue. Increasing the supply of "affordable"
homes will not come from market forces in Claremont. It will only result
from a persistent and insistent Council. Land-use modifications
recommended by a revised General Plan will require public-private
partnerships and a city council able to make credible long-term
commitments and sound economic decisions. Claremont requires
leadership that is analytical, goal-oriented and willing to take unpopular
positions. I provide such leadership.
/s/ LleweltYn Miller
PARA MIEMBRO DEL CONCEJO MUNICIPAL
LLEWELLYN MILLER
Edad: 56
He trabajado para mejorar
