HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD
May 21, 2001
7:00 PM, Town Barn
The Hillsborough Town Board held a Budget Work Session on May 21, 2001 at 7:00 PM in the
Hillsborough Town Barn. Present for the Budget Work Session were Mayor Horace H.
Johnson, Sr., and Commissioners Frances Dancy, Evelyn Lloyd, Mark Sheridan, Kenneth
Chavious, and Brian Lowen. Present were Town Manager Eric Peterson, Town Clerk Donna
Armbrister, Finance Director Sherry Carter, Planning Director Margaret Hauth, Town Engineer
Kenny Keel, Management Intern Jim Klingler, Public Works Director/Assistant Town Manager
Demetric Potts, Police Chief Nathaniel Eubanks, and Fleet Maintenance Supervisor/Mechanic
John Cook.
Mayor Horace H. Johnson, Sr. called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM.
Mayor Horace H. Johnson, Sr. reported on damages at the Occoneechee Mountain Park created
by a rockslide. This may end up closing the observation deck for up to three years in order to
repair or move the platform. The Mayor directed the Town Clerk to distribute copies of the
geological report to the other Board Members.
At the request ofthe Board, Town Manager Eric Peterson reviewed the Manager's Budget
Message and briefly summarized his budget report from the Regular May meeting.
By consensus, the Board agreed to limit the meeting to a couple of hours.
The Manager reviewed the proposed budgets for the Governing Body, Administration, Finance,
Planning, Ruffin Roulhac, Police Department, Fire Inspections/Code Enforcement, Motor Pool,
Streets and Sanitation, Cemetery, Tourism, the Fairview Community Policing Center, and
Special Appropriations.
The Board requested additional information on the police department vehicles, which are
schedule to be retired, and an updated list of all employees who are authorized to drive Town
vehicles home.
The Town Manager agreed to have Alois CalIeymn in attendance at the May 24th Budget Work
Session to address questions regarding the Fire Department budget requests.
Upon a motion by Commissioner Sheridan, seconded by Commissioner Lloyd, the Board moved
to recess the meeting until Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 PM in the Town Barn by a vote of 5-0.
